Well, unfortunately, though we tried just about everything, our sweet Minnie duck did not make it. She seemed to be improving at first but then took a turn downhill over the last week. Her injuries/issues ended up being more severe/degenerative than we had thought. We were hopeful and determined to give her a good life but, it seems it just wasn't meant to be.

Bodhi's taking it the hardest, sweet girl, as they had bonded the most. We are sad, but also grateful for our time with this little champ. Any heaven I believe in has ducks, so hopefully she's swimming and waddling her little butt off now. Rest swimmingly, Minnie Pickle. 💔

Summer life around the farm. Hot chores, but farm babies are staying cool and beachy in their swim pools, wallows, and under the umbrella and playset. We've also ran an extension cord out so the elder golden girl pigs, Olive and Patsy Swine, have a big cool fan blowing. Minnie's got some new friends and Charlie says hey, where's my cheese? 🐐🐍🐷

Hard to see everyone from this angle/distance, but I am on our back porch eating lunch and can see the chickens, most of the goats, and our neighbors' two rescue horses, Allen and Hope, hanging out right behind. Little Nellie (the donkey) is there too, you just can't see her. Minnie the duck is chilling in the shady run. The pigs are over in the wallow (mud hole) and shade of the barn in the breeze.

And it's in moments like this, that we just have to stop and take a breath and say thank you. Right here, in this photo, is our scrappy little farm dream manifested. It's not fancy, but it's perfect to us.

And for extra magic, the gorgeous giant willow tree was planted by Mandy and her Dad when it was a sprig, around 12 years ago.

Minnie update! Second wheelchair incarnation has suited her well. In the water she can now stand with the support of the water buoyancy, but she hasn't been able to stand continually on dry land
With this helper, she can stand on her own with the support. Next steps in addition to continued hydrotherapy and cuddles and great food, Jimmy's going to tweak the wheelie so she can zoom around on it on smooth surfaces. Can't wait to see that!

There's a new rescue at the Windy Chicken Farm! She came to us in pretty rough shape and we were hopeful, but realistic about her injuries. Not sure if she was born this way or got trampled by her litter mates, but she was SO small for her age and her left wing was atrophied and she couldn't use her back left leg at all, it seems partially paralyzed. Her neck and upper body were severely twisted. She couldn't stand up at all and we had to prop her against a little stuffed bear so she wouldn't fall over when sitting, her legs would just splay every which way.

A little under two weeks later, she is swimming happily in her baby pool with her daily hydrotherapy, we taught the girls exercises to do with her to strengthen her neck muscles and legs, and just yesterday she STOOD on her own for the first time even if briefly. She is now able to sit the majority of time on her own and keep her balance amazingly! She may never be a "typical duck" but we are optimistic she can have a good and pampered life with daily snuggles, treats, and swim time.

Jimmy is even working on a little duck wheelchair made of entirely repurposed material that she can scoot around in supervised for extra leg strengthening!

Eventually when she's strong enough and the time is right we will look into getting a couple of ducklings for companionship (babies so she can be the alpha).

The girls named her Minnie Pickle! Welcome little Minnie to our farm. You already have waddled your way into our hearts!
