Texas beekeepers lost 61% of their honey bee colonies according to the most recent statewide survey.

Recognizing the urgency, AgriLife Extension will host a free webinar for Texas beekeepers, growers, educators and the public on August 29. During the event, Garett Slater, AgriLife Extension honey bee specialist and assistant professor in the Texas A&M Entomology department, will explain statewide survey data and explore possible solutions.

Honey harvest is really late this year. All the rain kept washing the pollen out of the flowers, and this has affected the bees. I still hope to be able to pull some honey, so stay tuned.

May 20th is World Bee Day! 🐝

The theme of this year is “Bee Engaged with Youth.” Young people will be the future stewards of our environment, so it is paramount that they get involved with pollinators!

You can support pollinators today, and every day, by planting a pollinator garden, donating to research institutions, educating yourself (and your children, if applicable!) on the importance of pollinators, supporting local agricultural practices, and reducing use of pesticides.

We caught a swarm today and although I didn’t see the queen, the bees kept moving into the box, leading me to be pretty sure we had her.
