Ever wonder why people bring their livestock to the fair, or use a stick to scratch their belly in the showring? We answer these questions along with so many more. If you are a livestock person, sure you know the answer, but the general public doesn't and we tend to forget that. If we don't want them to have misconceptions about what we do, we must educate and explain why we do what we do... that is where Moo U comes into play.

Ranch dogs play an important part in the daily running of a ranch or farm. "Heelers", Australian cattle dogs are one of many breeds of working dogs that are used to help move the livestock from pasture to pasture and also to help us load up animals into livestock trailers. Bonnie on the left is great at helping us load up sheep and cattle that are reluctant to jump into the trailer. She nips at the heels getting them to move forward. (This is why they are called heelers)! We also need the guardian dogs such as Mia and Lea in the picture on the right. They are Great Pyrenees crossed with another breed of guardian dogs called Anatolian . These dogs actually live with the sheep and cattle, day and night protecting them from predators such as coyotes.

Moo U is sad that we won't be headed out to many fairs this summer and fall due to the COVID 19. Foremost we have to social distance and be safe. So with that in mind I plan to post more often about livestock facts and trivia here. So stay tuned...
Yes those are some of our cattle that just happened to be at our front gate to greet me one afternoon. I couldn't have planned it better. These are purebred Shorthorn beef cattle. As you can see they come in a range of color from red, white and roan. Shorthorns were originally called Durhams. Don't be surprised if you see more pictures of these gals since I love to take pictures of them.
