The pool was already here. Everything behind it is what we added.

A lot of backyards in North Texas have this exact problem. Great pool, nothing to do around it. You swim, you dry off, and then you go inside because there is nowhere to sit and nothing to cook on.

So we built the other half. A detached covered patio right off the water with a full outdoor kitchen, a built-in gas grill, a side burner, a kamado, granite counters, and stacked stone all the way around.

A big fan overhead for August. A heater for January. Room at the table for everybody.

Now the pool is one thing to do out there instead of the only thing.

Same house. Same backyard. Frisco, TX.

Before: a slab about the size of a parking space, a grill pushed against the wall, and a camp chair.

After: a gabled covered patio tied into the existing roofline, a stamped concrete patio running the full width of the house, and room for the whole family to sit.

You know the one. Sometime in October, a front comes through, the humidity drops, and for the first time in five months it is actually pleasant outside after dinner.

That is the night people go stand in their backyard, look around, and realize there is nowhere to sit.

A fire feature is what keeps everyone out there. It is the difference between going back inside at eight and staying out until eleven.

Ready before the front gets here? Send us a message or give us a call.

Building a new home in North Dallas or anywhere in North Texas? If you're planning to add an outdoor kitchen or covered patio down the road, there are three things you'll want to talk to your builder about now.

⚡ Electrical: Outdoor living spaces add a lot of power demand between appliances, lighting, and fans. Ask your builder to run a dedicated circuit (maybe two) to the backyard. Having that ready to tie into saves a significant amount later.

🔥 Gas: Builder gas lines are usually only big enough for a portable grill. If you plan to have more than one gas appliance, you'll need a larger line, and it needs to be in the right spot.

💧 Plumbing: If you want a sink in your outdoor kitchen, the time to plan it is before the foundation is poured. Having the builder rough in two water lines and a drain tied into your main sewer costs a fraction of the $6,000 to $8,000 it can take to add it later.

A little planning during construction can make your future backyard transformation easier, faster, and more affordable.

Have questions about planning your outdoor living space? We'd love to help.

Six backyards. Same neighborhood. Same builder.

Every one of these is in Light Farms. Every one of them started as the same small patio slab and the same patch of grass. Then six different families made six completely different decisions.

One went dark. Stone island kitchen, wood slat TV wall, stained concrete.

One gave nearly the whole yard to turf and put a wide covered patio along the back of the house.

One built a vaulted cedar ceiling with a linear fireplace and the TV above it.

One kept the greenbelt view wide open and added a wood-burning fireplace plus a separate fire pit.

One built a detached cabana with sliding cedar barn doors that close the whole thing off.

One built for privacy, with louvered cedar screens between the columns and a stone accent wall.

The builder decides where your house stops. You decide what happens after that.

Ready to figure out yours?

This McKinney backyard went from a small slab of concrete to a space this family will actually use.

The Red Maple project started with an old patio cover, overgrown shrubs, and a patio too small to host anyone. We tore it out, expanded the patio with a salt finish extension, and built a gabled patio cover that ties right into the existing roofline.

Then came the outdoor kitchen island with a Lueders stone countertop, plus a large sliding door replacing the old living room windows so the inside and outside finally connect.

Same backyard. Completely different life.

Nobody wants to watch the game in the kitchen.

Fall in North Texas is Friday nights, Saturday afternoons, and all day Sunday. And every one of those is better outside once the yard is set up for it.

Covered patio so the sun on the screen is not a problem. A grill and smoker twenty feet from the seating. A fireplace for when the sun goes down and it actually gets cold. And nobody tracking in and out of the house all afternoon.

The setup takes some planning. The season does not wait.

"The end result is exactly what we were hoping for."

Alana's project covered a lot of ground. An extended patio, a wood-burning fireplace, wood slat accents, motorized screens, heaters, and a full outdoor kitchen with a smoker, grill, and griddle.

The bigger the scope, the more places there are for the finished thing to drift away from what somebody pictured at the design table. Getting all of that to land where she expected is the actual job.

Thank you, Alana.
