A volunteer plant always feels a little like a gift.

I didnā€™t plant this one. Didnā€™t start it in a tray or make space for it in the garden plan. It just popped up and decided to thrive. In fact, itā€™s doing better than most of the things we intentionally planted.

Gardening has a way of keeping your ego in check. The plants you fuss over sometimes struggle, and the random sunflower that nobody invited ends up being one of the prettiest things in the garden.

Funny how that works.

And Iā€™m not saying thereā€™s a life lesson in there, but Iā€™m also not not saying it. šŸŒ»šŸŒ»šŸŒ»

I donā€™t know why I do these things to myself. Made cheese from my goat milk yesterday. Then last night decided to start some fermented lemonade from the whey. Didnā€™t finish that up until like 11pm. Iā€™m tired this morning. Today is definitely a multiple cups of coffee kind of day. ā˜•ļø

We had a late calving this year and got a handsome little bull calf yesterday. Weā€™re on watch for another one due in the next day or so then one more in the next couple of weeks.

Goat ownership is mostly just rescuing perfectly healthy animals from situations they created themselves on repeat.

Today is Chicken Littleā€™s birthday.

Some kids are helpers when itā€™s convenient. Case is the kid who does whatever needs to be done, whenever it needs doing.

Not only has he built a chicken business from the ground up, but heā€™s also become someone his dad and I rely on every single day. Heā€™s dependable, responsible, hardworking, and willing to carry more than most kids his age.

I donā€™t tell him often enough, but there are days I honestly donā€™t know how weā€™d get everything done without him.

We are so very proud of you, Case. Not because of what youā€™ve built, but because of the kind of person youā€™re becoming. šŸ©µ

Every farm has that moment where a tool gets assigned a job it definitely didnā€™t apply for. Pretty sure RYOBI TOOLS USA had a suburban backyard in mind, not a pasture full of weeds. But it worked like a champ. šŸ¤ŖšŸ¤£

Good morning and happy Monday!!

Hope everyone had a great weekend. Ours was pretty busy. Saturday was super hot so we hit garage sales and then came home and organized a few cabinets in the kitchen. Sunday was a nice temp change, misty and cool. So we spent all day outside in the garden and working on the pig pasture.

We found this cute little nest while we were out there. Anyone know what kind of eggs they are? Weā€™re thinking a sparrow maybe.
