Whew. It’s been a busy summer and fall. We’ve expanded our homestead a lot this summer. We now have: 6 Katahdin ewes, 2 Katahdin rams, 1 Jacob wether, 2 Jersey steers, 1 small goat, 5 Mangalista/Duroc pigs, 3 New Zealand does, 1 New Zealand buck, 2 barn kittens, and our pet dog. We have loads to learn but we had fun moving the ruminants frequently as we improve our pasture. The dry late summer and fall meant we didn’t get the regrowth we had anticipated/hoped for but hopefully there’s enough for some late fall grazing before we start in on hay.

Meet Mr. Coffee! had another bull calf available so we decided it wouldn’t be double the effort to raise two! We’ll see...

Meet Mr. Coffee! had another bull calf available so we decided it wouldn’t be double the effort to raise two! We’ll see if that is true! 😂 Bottle feeding both Mr. Coffee and Biscuit wasn’t flawless this morning but I’m sure it will improve with experience. And *maybe* my son will decide to start training a team of oxen like Almanzo!
