A couple pasture pictures this morning of a matriarch in the breed and her daughter. It’s always interesting to me to see how animals mark their offspring to resemble themselves in some fashion but also to see the differences and improvements we as breeders try to influence their offspring.

The only thing we don’t like about the end of breeding season is the commingling of herd bulls in the bull pens. Good thing there’s a ref in this year’s pen to keep their minds in check.

BDR PARADISE 1420M11 is our “keeper” bull from last year’s offering. He is living up to his name! We know the genetics are stacked in his pedigree, but we like to see an animal prove itself. The first and second phases are complete with flying colors. Grabs our attention at birth and keeps it all the way through the developmental stages. He has maintained his body condition while in his first breeding season with 30 females, is an aggressive breeder, and is easy to be around. This picture was taken yesterday after pulling him from the females.

At Big D, breeding, developing and selling beefy Brangus and Ultra bulls is a big part of our business. Maternal instincts, fertility and marketability of their offspring are the main driving factors when it comes to our breeding decisions. If new genetics are on your “to do” list this fall, October 24th at the ranch, we’ll sell 60 head of them.
