Roz is 1, of our 2 rescue pigs, not our usual Kune kids-but we do try to help, when we have space. Roz has a gentle soul, a timid nature, and arthritis. So, we decided to make her time in the house yard more permanent. Pig daddy found an inexpensive metal storage bldg kit; built, reinforced, leveled, insulated, secured, ran electric, installed fans, a thick stall mat, brought her orthopedic bed up, and even installed a coat hook for her favorite blankie...only to have her take a quick glance, and lay down in the mud by the down spout...Pigs. Though 🤔 she could be waiting for wallboard install and paint. 🫣 You'll be waiting a long time, girlfriend. 🤣

We have 60 Heritage Bourbon Red Turkey Eggs in the incubator, with the 1st 3 hatching today. I planned to share the news with Big Tom, but he and young Tomas were in one of the chicken yards, having a dance-off. Unseat the King you say? Not today, Sir, not today.

Bourbon Red turkeys were named for Bourbon County in the bluegrass region of Kentucky and brought west by settlers.

They were an extremely important production variety up until the 1940's when commercial breeding practices created today's broad-breasted varieties and caused the heritage birds to become, almost, extinct. Thankfully, they are making a comeback as people realize the importance of genetic diversity.

They are a beautiful, calm bird, and ours are allegedly from a respected show line, however, not having a turkey background, who knew Turkey shows were a thing. 😁

When the pasture is more red clay and big sky than anything else, the Littles know that the best place to hang out is in the shade under their playscape. I'm pretty sure our visiting grand climbed under there too.
