ShadyBrook Farm

ShadyBrook Farm Cultivating change for a sustainable future. When we purchased our farm, the landscape was bare and the soil quality was less than desirable.

Shady Brook Farm came to existence in 2018 as our family moved away from the city and began our journey into small scale farming. One step at a time, we have used nature as our guide, planting trees and gardens, building compost piles, fencing and animal shelters, and creating polyculture environments with our gardens and poultry (chickens, ducks and turkeys). This is an ongoing process that will

take many years. While our main focus is raising dairy goats for soap products, our farm is all encompassing as our long-term goal is to become self-sufficient and sustainable.

If you know, you know…A little over a month before harvest. Korean Red Hot is our absolute favorite!

2026 kids. We weren’t planning to have any, but ended up with nine. I have to admit, they are pretty stinking cute.

Compost, wood chips and cardboard are a beautiful combination in the garden. We are looking forward to planting season later this spring. Mark at Rogue Small Haul delivered compost this afternoon from Plant Oregon, in Talent. He was fabulous to work with and the compost from is by far the most amazing that I’ve seen in our area. ❤️❤️

I didn’t quite catch the full “Before” picture prior to the beginning of our work in this field (though it is still in the very beginning phases).

As some of you know, over the last few years, my dad courageously fought a battle with cancer that ended last October.

In the last several months, our family has had time to reflect on our priorities and be available for my parents as our time with dad came to a close. This time of reflection resulted in downsizing our animals, specifically our goats, and participating in fewer fall and holiday markets.

We still have a a few goats as well as our chickens and ducks, but have decided to move forward with revamping at least one of our half-acre fields into garden space. We are currently evaluating our participation in vendor markets, but definitely plan to participate in a handful each year, and hope to bring all of you some amazing, locally grown produce, flowers, and herbs, as well as a limited supply of our fabulous goat’s milk soap.

Stay tuned as we plant trees, perennials, and a food forest garden in this space. We will keep you all posted later this spring and summer as we plant and hopefully, harvest some amazing crops, and provide them from our garden to your table.

Much Love,
Tom and Corrie
