This evening I had impromptu cutting off of one Betty’s Blue lavender plant. I was going to leave it for the bees but decided I had to have these blooms for myself! The rich purple color of the buds is beautiful! Should I make a lavender wreath? 💜😍💜

This is how to remove the lavender buds from a bundle. We have mostly craft lavender, but I do also have some culinary lavender suitable for baking or making lavender simple syrup for lemonade! 🍋 I’ll post an example of sifting screens in the comments. 💜

An update on our handsome blue eyed grandcat Ollie. He didn’t respond to the vets treatment and he took a turn for the worse. Ollie passed away Friday night. Our three young grandsons are heartbroken and will miss their pet. Rest in peace Ollie. Go hunt mice, chase birds and rabbits and give your affections to everyone you meet in heaven. Ollie will have a proper funeral and burial at Dry Creek Crossing Farm

We had a late start today due to a family grand pet crisis. It’s 97 degrees outside and the Kansas wind is blowing hard today but it’s nice being able to take shade breaks in our new gazebo! Today’s harvest was Phenomenal lavender. Tomorrow’s harvest will be Riverina Thomas lavender, known for its long and beautiful stems. RT seems to be the lavender cultivar that thrives here in our silty loam soil and we plan to plant more in the spots where others didn’t survive. More updates coming!

Update on the family pet emergency this morning. Ollie is our grand cat. Ollie is a big handsome boy with beautiful blue eyes. Ollie is our daughter’s cat and he acts more like a friendly dog than a cat, always friendly and excited about company and will follow you around hoping you will give him some love and affection. Ollie is a curious boy and can get himself into mischief when he goes outside and something has made Ollie very sick. Our daughter is out of town and Ollie was in her garage, acting lethargic, so we immediately knew something was wrong. We brought Ollie to the vet where he had tests ran but he has a  105 temp. Dr. Ty at AMC is the best and is admitting Ollie for a few days and giving him antibiotics and fluids. Ollie is not out of the woods, but we should know more in a couple of days. 🥺🙏🏻

UPDATE: Due to a family pet emergency, the start time is delayed today.
Join us today, July 3, from 10:00 to 1:00 for our Lavender U-Pick event. Wear your bug spray! 1378 W Barton County Road. The plants may look rough due to winterkill, but there still plenty to harvest! Local Lavender Lover’s Society, central Kansas
