It’s officially cozy season, so we figured it was time to settle down and and look for someone special…

And, well… we think we found our perfect match.

Meet this week’s Pour of the Week: Santalba Crianza 2022 from Rioja Alta, Spain. He’s Spanish. He’s mature. He’s smooth. He’s a little spicy. And as you can see, things are moving pretty quickly around here 🌹

Behind the dating profile, though, is a seriously lovely Rioja. Santalba Crianza is built around Tempranillo, with juicy cherry and red fruit, warm spice, vanilla and cedar from its time in oak. It’s dry, smooth, savory and just structured enough to make it an especially good red for these first cozy fall days.

Come see if there’s chemistry šŸ’ƒšŸ¼

What happens to the cork after the last pour?

At Stems, it now gets a second life.

We’re excited to be an official partner of ReCORK, a cork recycling program that keeps natural w**e corks out of the waste stream and puts them back to work. Instead of heading to the trash, the corks we collect are ground down and repurposed into new products—replacing materials that would otherwise be petroleum-based.

And here’s one of our favorite things about natural cork: cork trees don’t have to be cut down to harvest it. The bark is carefully removed and grows back, making cork a pretty incredible renewable material.

So yes, we save a lot of corks around here. And now every bottle we pop is one tiny piece of a much bigger recycling effort.

And your corks can join ours! If you have natural w**e corks piling up at home, bring them by Stems and we’ll add them to our ReCORK collection.

Of course, once you drop off all those old corks, you may find yourself in need of a bottle with a nice, fresh cork to take their place. We can help with that, too. šŸ˜‰

Good w**e. Less waste. We can cheers to that. šŸ„‚šŸŒæ

It’s warm again. So we’re ricocheting back to white šŸ™ƒ

This week’s Pour of the Week is the 2023 Ricochet MRV, a RhĆ“ne-inspired white blend from Les Collines Vineyard in Walla Walla Valley, Washington. And if ā€œMRVā€ is new to you, it’s simply the three grapes in the bottle: Marsanne + Roussanne + Viognier.

This is a really fun example of why white blends can be so interesting. Marsanne brings body and texture, Roussanne adds aromatic complexity, and Viognier contributes that beautiful floral and stone-fruit character. In this particular vintage, look for Meyer lemon, pink grapefruit, Honeycrisp apple and Asian pear, with plenty of freshness keeping all that texture and fruit from feeling heavy.

The result is a white with a little more weight, texture and complexity than your typical crisp porch-pounder—but it still has the acidity to feel bright and refreshing. Basically, it gives us a little nod toward fall without asking us to pretend we are’t sweating through our sweaters šŸ˜…

If you usually reach for Chardonnay but want to venture into something different, this is a VERY good place to start.

Sweata weatha is FINALLY in the forecast, and we have just the Malbec for the occasion. šŸ‚šŸ·

This week’s Pour of the Week is Rapsodia Malbec Reserva from Finca Abril in Argentina’s Uco Valley. It has the richness you might hope for in a Malbec, with ripe plum and red fruit up front, a hint of violet, and subtle vanilla from French oak. The tannins are soft and rounded, while enough acidity keeps the finish lively. In other words, it’s a satisfying red to settle into without feeling too heavy.

After a long, hot summer, we’re ready for a crisp evening, a seat on the porch, and a glass of this. Come try it at STEMS this week.

The room in the second photo became the STEMS you know today. And we’re still finding ways to make it better.

From the beginning, we’ve listened to what you love, what you’d change, and what you wish we had. That’s how we try to approach everything at The Mill: add, adjust, and keep making the experience better whenever we can.

The request we hear most at STEMS? Something to eat with your w**e. Our space is small, but we found a way! Beginning September 22, we’ll offer charcuterie boxes for one or two people. šŸ§€

Thank you for helping shape this place. Keep telling us what you’d love to see—we’re listening.

We hope to see you this week at STEMS šŸ„‚

POUR OF THE WEEK: Send Nudes Pinot Noir šŸ˜

Consider this adult spin the bottle — except no matter where it lands, you get w**e. So arguably, we’ve improved the game.

And while Send Nudes may not exactly be trying to behave itself, don’t let the label fool you. SLO Down W**es has built a reputation around making w**e feel decidedly less serious while still taking what’s inside the bottle seriously.

This is 100% California Pinot Noir, with Bing cherry and fresh violet on the nose, juicy stone fruit, tea leaf and a little cinnamon spice. Neutral oak keeps it bright and fresh rather than overly oaky, with lively acidity and that silky, easy-drinking quality that makes Pinot so lovable.

Unserious label. Seriously good w**e.

Come give it a spin as this week’s Pour of the Week
