Thanks for the shout out, Community Farmland Trust! It takes a village!

Today, we celebrate the incredible women who plant, nurture, harvest, and sustain the very food that fuels our lives. 🌾💚

Women in agriculture are more than farmers—they are innovators, caretakers of the land, leaders in their communities, and stewards of future generations. Through early mornings, long days, and unwavering dedication, they continue to break barriers, challenge norms, and cultivate not just crops, but resilience and hope.

To the women who work the soil with strength and grace, who balance tradition with progress, and who pour their hearts into feeding the world—thank you. Your impact reaches far beyond the fields.

Here’s to your hard work, your passion, and your legacy. Today, we honor you. 🌻

Good Morning- We're open today as usual. Please check the roads prior to coming- but this morning Harrison and Reynolds were just fine. It looks like the river is cresting (a bit earlier than predicted)- but we are ok- so we're open as usual. Stay safe friends!

We will make the call tomorrow morning regarding Thursday....but for now, if you have PT scheduled today- you're on! If you are unable to make it, please reach out to us at 360.807.4230 so I can fill the appointment slot. Stay safe neighbors! **Picture of the Flerd. We moved them into the carport---just in case. Today was a pretty special day...and I am so grateful! This past summer we started a nonprofit- Foundation Farms. The vision is to teach small niche farming with a community mindset through developing an incubator farm program that also pairs farmers with agencies serving our neighbors. We aim to grow farmers who help the helpers by doing what we do best- feeding people and building community.

I was fortunate enough to partner with The Boys & Girls Club of Lewis County this past summer as a proof of concept for my doctoral project. Together, we envisioned how to build community and develop food skills by creating, using and maintaining an outdoor classroom. Thanks to a grant from CHOICE and the Lewis County Wellness Collaborative, we were able to develop the BGC built environment to do just that! Through the Foundation Farms "Farmer in Residence Program" we worked with the BGC kids and staff to maintain and use their garden space throughout the summer and fall.

This September, the grant from CHOICE enabled me to push for the next level of development and today we had a ribbon cutting ceremony- celebrating the completion of this phase of the project. In attendance were members of the Foundation Farms board- each advocates in their own right- as well as Boys and Girls Club staff and families from the Seedpod Farm-BGC Garden Club....and of course, the Seedpod Family as well! Instrumental, but not pictured is Doug Walsh who helped me tackle the challenges of building on a steep grade and Duane Bordwell and Dennis Gullett who helped me put the finishing touches on the sandbox. None of this would have been possible if it weren't for my family! For every wheelbarrow full of mulch, every w**d pulled and seed planted- thanks fam!

Thank you all for gathering to celebrate the completion of this project! I look forward to seeing the BGC Outdoor Classroom be a place of learning and community building for our neighbors- kids, families and staff alike! I'm honored to be a part of the BGC story and look forward to working with you all in the future!

Seedpod Farm Servant Share CSA Week 8: The frost has arrived and with it, the end of our CSA season. Our little microclimate normally does pretty well when those around us freeze. But, clearly the temps dove below what most of our veg could tolerate....except the kale---there's always kale ;-).

A big "Thank You!" to the families that participated in this year's Servant Share CSA. We donated nearly $1,800 worth of food and flowers to our neighbors, learned how to grow food using the Square Foot Gardening method- a highly productive, resource-efficient method of gardening that produces over $700 worth of veg in a 4ft x 10ft raised bed in a single season. Plus- we build community! Growing food and growing one another---stewarding the land and our resources in the process. Wins all around! We hope you'll join us next year for this wonderful learning opportunity!

On the Menu- Detroit Beets, Yellow Zucchini, Red Sails Lettuce, Escarole, Tuscan Kale, Blue Scotch Kale, Utah Celery, Green and Red Bell Peppers, Jalapenos, Pumpkin, Red Cabbage, Herb Bundle: Rosemary, Lemon Balm, Peppermint, Pineapple Sage. Enjoy!

And it's a wrap for 2025! Today was the final on-farm gathering of the Seedpod Farm-Boys & Girls Club of Lewis County Garden Club 2025. This was a piece of my doctoral project- developing community through food skills development. Beginning in June, I mentored these families in the same Square Foot Gardening methodology we use at Seedpod Farm. We watched our gardens grow, learned about w**ding and watering....and just what to do with all that kale!! We gathered on the farm a few times- sharing a meal and enjoying a walkabout. Today we picked pumpkins out of the Pumpkin Patch- a soggy affair! There were smiles despite the raindrops. "Thank you" friends for allowing me into your homes! I look forward to growing together next year!
