We’re making progress on our barndominium! The term I have seen is paycheck house. We’re building out of pocket. Basically, taking the vast majority of our income every month and putting it toward the house. We’re basically flat broke at the end of every month, but if you look at it, it’s like putting the money in the bank. We got the OSB and the house wrapped up this past week. Because the house wrap hides all the doors and windows. It looks like a big ugly gift box! Lol there will eventually be a porch all the way around it.
We’re also dealing with trying to keep our chickens contained so we can plant our garden. We built a mobile chicken coop. And we have the electric mesh netting, but are struggling getting it to work correctly. We are blessed with plenty of eggs though. Enough to provide free eggs for pretty much all of our neighbors.
We also replaced several fruit trees earlier, this spring that died over the winter. They were new trees last year. We have several peaches, apples, pears, plums, persimmons, Mulberry, Pawpaws, figs and a couple of pecans. All less than three years old.
We’re breeding our cow Maggie to a beautiful British white bull down the road. We’ve bred our three sheep, Millie, biddy and Maddie. And we’re dealing with a fencing issue over a small creek that runs through the middle of our property. Unfortunately, with heavy rain that creek turns into a huge creek that likes to take fence with it.
We have so many more plans! We built a tiny house on the Homestead for our children at any point in the future when they want to come stay. I built an outdoor cooking structure, I have plans for a small worm farm as well as aquaculture. We’re taking it all in stride and
doing as much of the work ourselves and repurposing as much as we can along the way.
I had a small stroke a couple of years ago so I’m a little slower than I used to be. I think the biggest thing we deal with now is the chaos of so many projects lol

I’d love to hear what you all are working on or dealing with on your Homesteads! I can definitely say, we’ve never been happier… Just as fairly I can probably say we’ve never been more tired… And I can most definitely say this homesteading life is not the Instagram picture perfect stuff I saw during Covid lol
