I had a swarm trap I built myself in the packhouse. Snatched it up and hung it where the swarm crossed into the woods equipped with two frames of already drawn comb and some Swarm Commander. Then went to grab a quick lunch. 15mins later already had scouts checking it out but at the end of the day there was nothing. Was seeing 20-50 scouts so it looked promising.

Yesterday on my way to get lunch a swarm drastically changed my lunch plans. I saw this surprise swarm crossing the pond and I lost the cluster as it went into the woods.

We have caught our first feral swarm of the season in the swarm trap. They are building up quick and I will be moving them to a Pro Nuc next week once they have established a little more and I see some brood.

After several failed attempts to relocate the oak tree honeys to their new home I finally had success. I had removed all the original comb and transferred it to frames but what puzzled me was the lack of any eggs, larva or brood. I questioned is there a queen in here? But these bees were way too calm and easy to work with for there to not be a queen present. After the 5th attempt I shook all I could from the split log into a hive and closed them up. Saw bees returned to one half of the stump. Smoked the mess out that stump and lo and behold out came the queen. I caught her in a clip and placed her in her new home. Within 30 mins all the other bees followed her. They have been in the hive for two days now and today there were lots of pollen coming in. Success! I love beekeeping.
