It's time to winterize the farm! We are focusing on animal comfort and keeping our water from freezing. Songyard Farms is 100% off grid, and last winter was tough! Today, we will start enclosing our water tanks in little "rooms," then next weekend we will build a few of these heaters!
We also have solar components to connect this week to diy a solar system in our large animal barn, and will start insulating our water buckets and troughs.

Bringing home a dairy cow....

We plan to pick Josie up on Friday! She should calve in just about a month and we can't wait for this experience to begin!

We will have a few weeks to help her settle in and get to know each other. She will start off living with our small farm animals while we slowly introduce her to the horses. She will have a stall and milking room in our horse barn when everyone is settled in.

On October 24th and 25th we will be hosting a Songyard Farms multifamily Yard Sale and mini fall fest to raise money for the farm. This is a great weekend to meet Josie and visit the farm! More information coming this weekend!

Look closely! Do you see it? I couldn't believe my eyes yesterday when I was about to trim a thorny branch and noticed the cocoon. And then I realized a praying mantis was still attached! What an amazing sight to see.
