PA Little Acres Homestead We began our journey in 2020 with 8 chicks, added goats in 2021 and turkeys in 2022.

Located in Chambersburg PA, our little homestead consists of ADGA register Nigerian Dwarf goats, a handful of turkeys and a number of chickens that we free range.

And I almost forgot about Mama Hen! 🐔❤️

Last night, as I was finishing up the evening chores and getting the chickens locked up, I made one last round to check the goats' hay feeders.

And look what I found! 🤣

Mama Hen had decided that the chicken coop just wasn't good enough for her and her four babies. Nope! She had all four tucked in around her, IN the goats' hay feeder, ready to settle in for the night! 🐥🐥🐥🐥

Now, let me tell you, this mama takes her job VERY seriously! She's one protective little lady, and you had better watch yourself when you get too close to those babies. She isn't afraid to come right at you! 😆

Of course, I couldn't leave them sleeping in the goats' dinner, so I carefully managed to get everyone moved down to a safer spot.

Let's just say Mama Hen was NOT impressed with my decision! 🤦‍♀️🤣

She may be little, but she's got the heart of a lion when it comes to protecting her babies. ❤️

Just another evening at PA Little Acres, where apparently even the chickens think they get to choose their own accommodations! 🐔💕

My handsome boys, Max and Oomie, are taking it easy this morning. 🐐❤️ But don't let this peaceful little scene fool you! 🤣

These two are in FULL rut mode, and all it takes is a doe walking within 50 feet of their pen for the peace and quiet to go right out the window!

Max, my big, muscular boy, has earned nicknames like Tank, Baby Bull, and Lion Goat. He's a whole lot of goat, but he still loves his scratches and attention. ❤️

And then there's Oomie! 🤣 He's the biggest blubbering fool of the two when it comes to the ladies! And when feeding time rolls around, he's pretty convinced HE is the boss and everyone else should know it! 😂

Both boys are friendly and affectionate, but right now their hormones are doing most of the thinking!

The minute I walk into their pen, here they come! Not necessarily because they're excited to see me, but because they need to investigate whether I've been visiting the girls. And if I smell like the ladies, apparently I'm fair game for some rubbing too! 🤦‍♀️🤣

As much as I love these two, rut season is one time I NEVER turn my back on either of them. Even the sweetest bucks can become unpredictable when those hormones are raging.

So for now, I'll enjoy this rare moment of two handsome gentlemen relaxing together.

Because the minute a pretty girl walks by, Max is ready to show off, Oomie starts blubbering, and all bets are off! 🤣🐐💕

😂🐾🦉 Marlin, the mighty defender of PA Little Acres!

The dogs heard an owl hooting this morning, and of course Marlin had to make sure everyone knew he was on duty!

His response? Shake that ball like he means business! 🎾🤣

I'm pretty sure that's Marlin's way of saying, "You might be big and scary, Mr. Owl, but have you heard MY ball? I'm big and tough too!" 💪🐶

Never a dull moment around here, especially when Marlin decides to show off his intimidation skills! ❤️

Well, at least she thinks she is!

Our pretty girl Faith is back in heat and once again bellowing her desires toward the big boys. Apparently standing on the picnic table helps make sure her message carries across the yard better. 🤣

Meanwhile, we’re still waiting to breed her. Sorry, girlfriend. You can flirt, holler, wag that tail and bat those pretty eyes all you want, but Mama has other plans. 😂❤️

For now, she’ll just have to admire the boys from afar…although judging by the noise coming from her, she is NOT happy with that arrangement. 🤣

Tiny heard me say it was dinner time for the boys and apparently thought, “Great! That means me too!” 😂🐐

Yes, Tiny… technically you ARE one of the boys. But the big boys don’t exactly agree.

I tried letting him spend a little time with the bucks, but with the big guys in rut right now, they’re not particularly interested in having a little boy hanging around their bachelor pad. 😬

So for now, Tiny is still trying to figure out exactly where he belongs around here.

We’re leaning more and more toward wethering him if we decide to keep him. That would certainly make life—and housing arrangements—a whole lot easier.

Until then, according to Tiny:

Boys are being fed.
I am a boy.
Therefore, that is MY dinner. 🤣

Before the sun comes up… 💙🌙

There’s something pretty special about stepping outside in the early morning, while most of the world is still sleeping, and looking up to see this.

The goats are waiting, chores need done, and another busy day is about to begin—but for just a moment, everything is quiet.

Sometimes the best part of an early start is getting to see what everyone else slept through. ✨

Grace and Black Beauty figured out there was no reason to compete with the adults for the freshly filled hay feeder when they could just get ON TOP of the hay. A quick catapult off Mama’s back and they were in business. 😂

Apparently, though, they forgot to check with management.

Because while I was typing this post, Moonbeam said, “Nope. That’s MY spot.” 🤣

And just like that, the buffet had a new queen.

Never a dull morning at PA Little Acres. 🐐💚

(And before anyone worries—all three little hay-topper hooligans were shooed back down for their own safety. 😆)

Just trying to milk Crumb Cake this morning when I felt someone tugging on my pants leg… 😂

Look down and there’s Tiny Tim.

Apparently this was his way of saying, “Excuse me… I need scratches. Now.” 🐐🤣

So there I am, trying to milk Crumb Cake while Tiny is requesting his morning scratch session.

Crumb Cake: Can we focus on me, please?
Tiny Tim: Right there, Mom. A little more… yep, that’s the spot. 😂
