Seventy-five years ago, a seed was planted. A vision. A dream. In 1949, a prominent group of independent fruit farmers recognized enormous potential in the Appalachian region of Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. With a commitment to raising quality fruit, they formed an alliance as a Grower Cooperative who believed in the power of nature, hard work, and a shared mission.
Like a young apple tree, it started small, nurtured by the land and the dedication of those who care for it.
Although we are one of the largest manufacturers of processed apple products in the world, most folks outside of Adams County or south-central PA, know little about Knouse Foods. That is, until you mention our delicious Musselman’s apple sauce and apple butter, or that sweet and satisfying Lucky Leaf fruit filling, which are now enjoyed by consumers throughout the country, placing them among the leading retail brands in America, with an extensive network of food service customers to serve as well.
Just like the tree that grows stronger each year, we’ve grown with time.
The result of hard work and dedication is a diverse product portfolio including Apple sauce, juice, and cider – fruit fillings and toppings – specialty apple products – and apple butter - that all incorporate the right blend of human touch, and innovative technology into our processes; the result allowing us to achieve great taste and quality from Harvest to Harvest.
Today, we celebrate 75 years of growth. 75 years of hard work and dedication. We celebrate 75 years, and our best fruits are still ripening!
