YOU PROTECT YOUR HOME EVERY DAY. BUT WHAT ABOUT WHAT'S FLOWING THROUGH IT? 💧🏠

Chambersburg water doesn't start in Chambersburg.

It starts in nature — at the Long Pine Run Reservoir in Fayetteville, PA, deep in the Michaux State Forest watershed. It can store 1.8 billion gallons.

The Borough's 2025 report is honest: that forest water is full of natural organic matter — leaves, tannic and humic acids. When that mixes with chlorine at the plant, you get:

TTHMs up to 57.1 ppb in the 2025 report
Chlorine byproducts that form when forest organics + chlorine react. That's what you smell in your shower.

And the report also says it — Chambersburg water is VERY SOFT. Only 10 ppm / ½ grain per gallon. You don't need a salt softener making it slimy.

That's why we do Salt-Free Whole-Home.

✅ EVERY TAP PURIFIED - whole-home catalytic carbon to reduce chlorine, TTHMs, sediment & odor
✅ Protects plumbing + appliances without salt, without electricity
✅ Safer, cleaner water for everyday life - from shower to kitchen
✅ PFAS tested ND in 2024 - but we build for what's next

Real water. Real results.

🔬💧THE SCIENCE BEHIND PURE WAY
WATER QUALITY, TESTING & TRUTH
purewayfiltration.com
WHAT CAN A WATER TEST ACTUALLY TELL YOU?

Your water looks clear. It tastes fine. Does that mean you know what's in it?

Not necessarily.

Water testing can reveal important information about your water quality—but understanding the results starts with knowing what was tested.

WHAT CAN A WATER TEST REVEAL?

Depending on the test, water analysis may measure:

Minerals & Water Chemistry — Properties such as hardness, pH, and total dissolved solids (TDS).

Metals— Substances such as lead, copper, iron, and manganese.

Disinfection Byproducts & Chemicals — Compounds that may be present in treated water.

Microorganisms — Specific bacteria and other microbes, depending on the test performed.

HERE'S WHAT'S IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND

No single test checks for everything. A basic water test may measure only a handful of properties, while other concerns require specialized testing methods.

Results can also vary depending on where the sample is collected. Water tested at a treatment plant may not reflect changes that occur as it travels through miles of distribution pipes and your home's plumbing.

And remember: clear water isn't necessarily contaminant-free, and a test that doesn't detect one substance doesn't mean every other concern has been ruled out.

THE BIG TAKEAWAY

The right questions are:

✔️ What was tested?
✔️ Where was the sample collected?
✔️ What do the results actually mean?
✔️ Are additional tests needed?

Understanding your water begins with choosing the right test—and knowing how to interpret the results.

💧 Know your water.
🔬 Understand the science.

💧INSIDE PURE WAY
THE JOURNEY TO CLEANER WATER: WHOLE-HOME VS. POINT-OF-USE FILTRATION
purewayfiltration.com
Did you know water filtration systems can work in two different ways? The biggest difference is where the water is filtered and how much of your home is covered.

WHOLE-HOME FILTRATION

A whole-home system is installed where water enters your home, treating water before it travels to your faucets, showers, appliances, and other water outlets.

Why it matters:
- Treats water supplied throughout the home.
- Provides filtered water at multiple points of use.
- Can help address water-quality concerns beyond the kitchen sink, depending on the system's capabilities.

POINT-OF-USE FILTRATION

A point-of-use system is installed at a specific location, such as under a kitchen sink, on a faucet, or at a refrigerator. It treats water only at that particular outlet.

Why it matters:
- Targets water used at a specific tap or appliance.
- Can provide specialized treatment for drinking and cooking water.
- Offers a focused solution for particular contaminants, depending on the filter technology.

WHAT'S THE BIGGEST DIFFERENCE?

Think of it this way: whole-home filtration treats water as it enters your home, while point-of-use filtration treats water where you use it.

Neither approach automatically removes every contaminant. What a system can reduce depends on its filtration technology, design, and verified performance.

💧THE BIG TAKEAWAY

Whole-home and point-of-use filtration serve different purposes—and in some homes, they can complement each other.

The best choice starts with understanding your water quality, identifying your concerns, and selecting technology designed to address them.

That's the journey to cleaner water:

Different stages. Different technologies. Different jobs. One goal: better water.

🔬THE SCIENCE BEHIND PURE WAY
THE SCIENCE OF TASTE & ODOR 💧

Have you ever noticed that your tap water smells like chlorine, tastes metallic, or has an earthy or musty odor? There’s science behind those differences!

WHAT CAN CAUSE UNUSUAL TASTE & ODORS?

🔹Chlorine or bleach-like smell: Chlorine is commonly used to disinfect public drinking water and may affect its taste or smell.

🔹Metallic taste: Iron, manganese, copper, or water chemistry that contributes to plumbing corrosion may be responsible.

🔹Earthy or musty odor: Naturally occurring compounds produced by algae and other organisms in lakes and reservoirs can affect water’s taste and smell.

🔹Rotten-egg smell: Hydrogen sulfide gas can cause this distinctive odor, particularly in some groundwater supplies.

WHY DOES IT MATTER?

Taste and odor can provide clues about water quality—but they cannot tell you whether water is safe to drink. Some harmless substances affect taste, while certain contaminants may have no noticeable taste or smell at all.

If your water develops a sudden or persistent change in taste or odor, contact your water utility or arrange for appropriate water testing. Private well owners should consider testing through a certified laboratory annually.

💧THE BIG TAKEAWAY

Better-tasting water starts with understanding what causes its taste and odor. Identifying the source is the first step toward choosing the right solution.

Know your water. Understand the science. Make informed choices.

💧 INSIDE PURE WAY
THE JOURNEY TO CLEANER WATER: WHAT HAPPENS WHEN FILTERS GET FULL?

Water filters work by capturing, retaining, or adsorbing certain contaminants as water passes through them. But filters have a limited capacity—and what happens as they become loaded with contaminants depends on the filtration technology and the filter design.

🔹Flow Can Be Affected
As some filters accumulate sediment and particles, resistance to water flow can increase, potentially reducing water pressure or flow rate.

🔹Filtration Performance Can Change
As filter media reaches its capacity, its ability to capture or adsorb certain contaminants may decrease. Some contaminants may begin passing through, depending on the filter and the substances involved.

🔹Not Every Filter Works the Same Way
Sediment filters trap physical particles, while activated carbon adsorbs certain dissolved compounds onto its surface. Each technology has different performance limits and maintenance requirements.

🔹Maintenance Matters
Following the manufacturer’s recommended service and replacement schedule helps keep your filtration system operating as designed. Waiting until you notice a change in taste, odor, or flow may mean a filter is already overdue for replacement.

🔹How Long Do Filters Last?
Pure Way Filtration filters typically last 18–36 months, depending on water usage and water conditions. Regular maintenance and timely filter replacement help keep your system operating as designed.

💧 THE BIG TAKEAWAY

A filter doesn’t last forever. Knowing its capacity, monitoring performance, and keeping up with maintenance are important parts of effective water filtration.

That’s the journey to cleaner water—
Different stages. Different technologies. Different jobs. One goal: better water.

🔬💧 THE SCIENCE BEHIND PURE WAY
WHAT IS TDS? UNDERSTANDING TOTAL DISSOLVED SOLIDS

Have you ever tested your water with a TDS meter and wondered what that number means?

TDS stands for Total Dissolved Solids—the combined amount of dissolved substances in water, including minerals and salts such as calcium, magnesium, sodium, and chloride.

💧 What does a TDS reading tell you?

TDS is measured in parts per million (ppm) or milligrams per liter (mg/L). Most TDS meters estimate dissolved solids by measuring water’s electrical conductivity.

Does high TDS mean water is unsafe?

A high reading may reflect naturally occurring minerals or salts. However, a low reading doesn’t guarantee water is free of harmful contaminants, either. A TDS meter cannot tell you exactly which substances are present.

What level is acceptable?

The EPA’s secondary guideline for TDS is 500 ppm (mg/L), primarily related to taste, deposits, and other aesthetic concerns—not a stand-alone measure of drinking-water safety.

THE BIG TAKEAWAY

TDS is one piece of the water-quality puzzle, not the whole picture. Understanding your water requires knowing what’s in it and testing for specific concerns.

💧 Know your water. Understand the science. Make informed choices.

💧 TOXIC TUESDAY | WHAT'S REALLY IN YOUR WATER?

Why Can Two Homes on the Same Street Have Different Water?

You might assume that if two homes are connected to the same water system, they're getting exactly the same water.

Not necessarily.

Even homes next door to each other can have differences in the water that comes out of their faucets.

Why?

Different plumbing
Homes can have different pipes, fittings, fixtures, and service lines. The materials and condition of that plumbing affect water quality.

Different home age
Older homes may have older plumbing materials that behave differently than newer systems.

Different water usage
How long water sits in a home's plumbing before it's used can affect what happens between the water main and the faucet.

Different water sources
In some neighborhoods, homes may not even have the same water source or treatment system—especially when comparing public water to private wells.

There's another important piece:

Your water doesn't stop changing once it leaves the treatment plant.
It travels through a distribution system and eventually through the plumbing in your home. The EPA notes that water quality can be affected by the distribution system and by premise plumbing, where factors such as pipe materials, stagnation, and plumbing configuration can make a difference.

What's the takeaway?

Your neighbor's water isn't necessarily a perfect representation of yours.

That's why understanding your own water source, your home's plumbing, and your actual water quality matters.

If you want to know what's really coming out of your faucet, testing is the best place to start.

Because when it comes to your home's water:

Same street doesn't always mean same water.
