Costumed goats, a walk along the pond, and no jump scares.

The Spooky Family Goat Walk runs 4:30 to 6 PM on Saturday, October 24th. You'll walk the pond trail and loop back along the pasture with a few of our goats in costume. Along the way you'll find two spooky displays and a stop for candy and glow sticks. Stop by the pavilion for bbq pork sandwiches or s'mores afterwards. Trail is a free Community Event

Wear shoes you can walk a natural trail in. Stollers with all terrain tires recommended.

One more chance to make paper by hand this fall.

Fresh Press Studios, the agricultural-fiber paper lab at the University of Illinois, returns to the Orchard Classroom on Sunday morning. You’ll learn how miscanthus and cotton fibers become pulp, pull your own sheets with a mould and deckle, and turn handmade paper into cards to take home. Every participant also qualifies for studio hours at Fresh Press, so you can keep going after the workshop.

No experience is needed, and all materials are included. Papermaking is wet work, so wear clothes that can get damp.

Prairie Fruits Farm and Creamery isn’t kidding around when it comes to celebrating Halloween. Over the weekend, the farm held its Fall Farm Celebration, complete with a goat parade, a goat photo booth and live music.

Every loaf of sourdough starts with a jar of flour and water that’s alive.

In our Sourdough Starter Workshop, you’ll learn how a starter works and practice mixing and feeding one by hand. You’ll learn how to tell when it’s active and ready to bake with, what to do when something seems off, and how to keep it going for years. You’ll leave with your own starter and a care guide with feeding instructions.

It’s beginner-friendly, with no experience needed and no complicated terms. All ingredients and materials are included.

Our Farmstead Cheese Making Class with the Caprae team is back on Thursday, October 22, from 6 to 8 PM. Make a fresh cheese by hand and take it home with the recipe. Our free Haunted Trail is back this year! Join us for some spooky fall fun, with options for all ages!

Saturday, October 24th
4:30 to 6 PM: Spooky Family Goat Walk. A walk along the pond and back through the pasture with costumed goats. Two spooky-but-friendly displays, plus candy and glow sticks. Good for kids, and for anyone who wants Halloween without the screaming.

6:30 to 9 PM: Full Scary Time. The same trail but along the whole pond, after dark, with scares waiting along the way. Last entry is at 9 PM.

Afterward there are s'mores by the fire, hot chocolate at the bar cart, our farm's hand-crafted cheeses and other local finds at our farm store, and dinner and drinks at our on-farm restaurant, Caprae.

Weather permitting. Dress warmly. This is a free community event; no tickets required. Donations will be accepted towards our new Community Butterfly Garden, which will be opening in the Spring.

Planning your Sunday? Brunch at Caprae runs 9 AM to 2 PM, and reservations are a good idea. Last year the Raclette line pulled people away from sit-down brunch, so book a table first, then wander over for a sandwich and a cup of hot c***r.

The rest of the vendor line up for our Fall Farm Celebration happening this Sunday at Prairie Fruits Farm & Creamery from 10am to 2pm:

Smiling Snake T-Shirt Co. Jake screen prints each nature tees by hand at his home shop in Oakwood. He was one of the busiest booths last year.

Berries & Flour. Heidi Leuszler makes shrubs, jams, syrups, and baked goods from Midwest plants.

Poured Curiosities makes unique resin sculptures, clocks, jewelry, trinkets, and decor.

Melisa Morgan Designs creates wearable art/resin jewelry using flowers and plants from my garden, as well as oyster mushrooms. From unique necklaces, rings, to bracelets, each of my pieces are home-grown, hand-picked, and made with love.

Sew Good by Molly makes one of a kind purses, jackets, wallets, pillows, glass cases, travel jewelry cases out of mostly recycled goods.

Luscious Leaves brings a variety of house plants, planters and more. She creates beautiful terrariums to showcase the beauty of plants and hosts many workshops for you to create and take home.

Fall Farm Celebration is happening this Sunday, October 18th: 10 AM to 2 PM, free admission, goat parades at 11 AM and 1 PM, live music from Dave n Lisa, Raclette sandwiches, hot c***r and hot chocolate, cheese samples at the farm store, and nine local vendors.

Free Story Time is back this Saturday, Oct 17, at 10:30 AM.
