Instagram vs reality.

Why is it that I love my home and my yard until someone else is looking? Then, rather than seeing seeing all the work and the love and the time I've put into it, all I can see are the flaws? It's so easy to get sucked into comparing our yards, our lives, our bodies, etc to everyone else's. It's important to remember that EVERYONE has something they're cropping out of their pictures- whether it's literally or figuratively. Show yourself the same compassion you would show a friend or a stranger.

I'm forever in awe of this kid. All those batches of soap he made have paid off. His nuc is home and he got his first sting. He can now officially call himself a beekeeper!

We are abuzz with excitement. Tomorrow night, our homestead grows by a few thousand!

My 12 year old son, Pherson, has been saving the money he made from his soap business and was able to make his dreams of owning an apiary come true!

He bought and built his own hive and bought a nuc from a local bee keeper. He's been doing as much research as possible while waiting for the nuc to be ready, and we get to pick it up tomorrow!

The thing I love about the planty community is the level of generosity that exists. We recognize that sharing our plants not only makes other people happy, but is good for our own plants to prevent crowding. So much of my original gardens came from the generosity of other gardeners and I try to pay it forward whenever I can.

We just spent the afternoon digging up 16 shoots from plum, pear and apple trees that Ethan's friend offered us. If even half of them take, we'll have quite the orchard 😍
Now, to figure out where to put these bad boys.

These dark purple irises are always my first to bloom. I typically don't have much to add to bouquets with them this time of year (I will next year) so I keep them for my own enjoyment. 😍

He's so good to me 😍 Mr. "I don't care what you do for gardens as long as I don't have to deal with them" out here helping Mr till. Pictures 1-3 are the veggie garden. #4 is the annual flower bed. I do no-till in the perennial beds. There's still so much to do, but we've had such a wet spring and everything got so neglected last year :-(
