In loving memory of Peppermint Celebri Te ("Bozo") April 2, 2008-September 14, 2026
I could post thousands of pictures and videos; there are definitely thousands to be found here on Facebook and hundreds of videos on YouTube. EIGHTEEN years of a life, bred, born, raised, and trained by me. This was my mother's horse. My mother passed away last October. Bozo was prone to intermittent problems, things that were hard to diagnose. I remember my mother saying we'd never let her suffer. Well, the last week was rough. And the last day... it was clear to me what needed to happen.
Bozo had an ROM in halter and won all kinds of circuit titles and awards standing on the end of a chain, then went on to earn 348 performance credits in APHA PAC competition. She was the mother to one foal, Struttinlikacelebrity, earner of 594 performance credits, making her mama a multiple World and National Champion producer with her own success in Western Dressage and trail challenges. Little Jo is one of the many gifts Bozo gave me.
Bozo worked as a lesson horse at Celebrity Ranch for the past 14 years, as often as she was physically able, helping many people become better riders and instilling them with confidence. She was an ace for any lucky rider who got to use her for our schooling shows over the years.
She came back many times over the years from injuries and foot problems. Just when we'd think we'd had our last ride, she'd be back on her game. Halter horse. Open show horse for students. Ranch riding, trail obstacle challenges, Cowboy Dressage, Western Dressage. Judges loved her and other competitors often hated to see her coming.
I had many great adventures traveling around the country to shows with Bozo. From APHA World Shows to Cowboy Dressage National Finals, shows in New Mexico, Arizona, California... she competed in the WDAA IOC a couple years back with an adult amateur and earned a division top ten in classes over 50 entries deep.
I started a tradition years ago with Bozo, we'd take a selfie on our way to the show ring, I'd get her beautiful soft brown eye and usually just half of each of our faces. Yesterday I asked her if she wanted to continue to fight, to try come back one more time. I looked deep into her eye and she gave me her answer.
Yesterday I took our final selfie. We groomed her up pretty and set her spirit free.
Thank you to our wonderful farrier Cody Walker for his help and compassion, this week and always. To Dr. Baumler, Peggy, and to our team at Celebrity Ranch for the hard sweaty work, love and support. Thank you most of all to Bozo. For the trust, the partnership, the personal growth. Your part in my journey doesn't end here. I have your one and only girl, Jo. The thing that happens when horses become part of your family, you can't have more than what you can do well by. Thank you for the gifts, until we dance again.
