Jimmy Acres: A Tommerdahl Family Farm

Why Jimmy Acres? Our farm's name pays tribute to both our grandpa (Jim) and his truck that he passed down to Jake (a GMC Jimmy named The Jimmy). The metaphor that is The Jimmy stretches far beyond the simple existence of an 19 year old GMC Jimmy. Jimmy Thecar survives in memory of Jim Thegrandpa whilst embodying the core values and morals that lie at the heart of America, the very glue that holds our society together. And just like the grandpa/car that Jimmy Acres is named after, the farm strives to represent innovation, sustainability, reliability and, most importantly, heart, courage, truth, and a midwestern tendency to never stray from the topic of weather in a conversation. Our goal for the farm is to go beyond simple self-sustenance and to create a surplus of products and goods from no more than what is provided by the land; creationism if you will. As we move forward, we strive to follow the precedent set by both Jim Thegrandpa and Jimmy Thecar:

Jimmy produced its own oil and windshield wiper fluid from trash dropped on the floorboard (or we can only assume this was the active mechanism)--we strive to produce our own energy and fertilizers from agricultural waste. Jim liked to eat grape nuts--we grow some perennial plants, such as grapes and nuts, that require less tilling of the land, thus retaining soil nutrients and carbon content while diminishing our carbon footprint. Jimmy liked to run off battery power even when it had the option to run on gas--even though water may not be as scarce as it is in the west, we plan to employ water recycling techniques from which we can produce additional resources. Jim was bald--well...there already seems to be a trend towards baldness in the family, so we can just keep up the good work on this goal. Plus the sound of "Jimmy Acres" has a ring to it, but at the same time doesn't role off the tongue so naturally that one would forget it easily. It'll stick with you like leaves on the Jimmy's grill or like that waxy feeling on your teeth from eating those chocolate donuts Jim used to love to buy for us.
