We have hay for sale! Seven dollars a bale, self-serve/honor system with a QR code on site in the barn. Come help yourself!

Most of what we grow here on the farm is food for the goats and the sheep. Three lambs were born last week! Two twin females from one momma and a male born to another momma. There’s a whole lot of gogo boots and “are you my mother?” going on around here! 🐑👢🚜

Yesterday’s gorgeous morning at Resilient Acres.

It’s been lovely to witness the great thaw… ribbony rivulets, swollen tributaries, and gushing streams carving through the ice and snow, revealing the stories of a long winter and the whisperings of spring.

The winds of change can be felt moving throughout the landscape – swaying the crowns of oaks and pines and poplars - encouraging the long laden grasses of the field to lift themselves even an inch toward the sun.

We were gifted with the sight of a pair of great horned owls nesting in the pines, their owlets calling out close by.

The shadowy skies sing songs of snow coming soon. For now we will soak up spring’s peek-a-boo, snuggle lambs, and trust in the wisdom of nature’s unfolding.

Have you heard about our PRAI+RIE program? It’s our Permaculture and Regenerative Agriculture Incubator and Resilience Immersive Experience. If you’ve ever wanted to garden or farm and be more connected to your food and other agricultural products this program is for you. No experience is required!

For example, one of our PRAI+RIE members incorporated bundles of farm fresh flowers into her song circle event in the barn. Another member crafted wreaths and other Christmas decorations from evergreens for one of our farm stays. Neither one had much, if any, farming experience. They just had some innovative and creative ideas. PRAI+RIE members can do as much or as little farming as they want and members keep all the proceeds of their sales of farm products!

We are currently accepting rolling PRAI+RIE applications. With 5 rooms already occupied by current PRAI+RIE members, we now have only 4 rooms left and they are all located in that sweet blue farmhouse from our previous post. Participants can also commute from off site and there are some on site seasonal camp options as well.

If you or anyone you know is interested in applying, click the link below. Most of the application is optional so if you’re considering applying but don’t have a solid farm plan - no worries! We will work on developing it together, perhaps even integrating some ongoing projects on our farm. As always, we encourage you to reach out with questions! And if you would first like to get a feel for the house and the land, you can book a farm stay for as little or as long as you like with no commitment to the program.

Winter at Resilient Acres❄️

The forest and meadow are deep in the quiet work of roots and rest.

Animals write stories along fresh snowy pages.

Waters sing their bubbly songs through icy openings.

Six-sided wonders beckon to be beheld.

The sun is low and golden and always cherished.

Goldenrod hooded owlet moth caterpillars(that name! 🦉🥹), also known as asteroid moths, are part of a thriving meadow ecosystem! They feed predominantly on goldenrod and aster flowers - functioning as pollinators in both of these stages of their life cycle. Breaking down plant matter and providing sustenance for birds, their presence is part of a healthy and balanced biosphere🤓🌎🐛

Spider webs strung with dew drops grace the golden grasses of the field. This particular species is called the bowl and doily spider🕷️

From the World Wide Web:

“The bowl and doily spider (Frontinella communis) is easily identifiable by its multi-layered web. The “bowl” is on top and the “doily” is below. Above the bowl are “knockdown lines” composed of non-sticky silk*. Insects fly into the lines and fall into the bowl. The spider hangs beneath the bowl in wait for the insect and then bites the insect from below. The doily protects them from beneath. Imagine lying on your back waiting for food to fall from the sky. That’s the bowl and doily spider!”😀

Old-man-of-the-woods mushroom!🤩While this little fella is technically edible, most people don’t find them very palatable. But ya gotta dig the shaggy cap and ombré grays on this polypore fungi!🖤🩶🤍

We are looking forward to offering workshops for mushroom-lovers so that you can make-and-take shiitake, oyster, and other mushroom inoculated logs back home to easily grow your own! It’s a simple and fun activity and a great way to expand what you can grow in your backyard! Stay tuned!
