I often think about the hardworking farmers who were here before me - the families who cleared and worked this land long before there were tractors and modern equipment.

Some of them are buried in a little cemetery just down the road from our farm.

It’s a reminder that we’re only the latest caretakers of this land.

Which steak would you buy?

Do you know what country your ground beef comes from?

You might assume the answer is right there on the package. But I went to the grocery store to see for myself — and what I found might surprise you.

I believe you have a right to know where your food comes from.

Would you buy farm-raised salmon if you knew how it was raised?

Most of the Atlantic salmon you'll find at the grocery store is farm-raised. Take a closer look at the label and you may be surprised by what you find.

I know which one I'm choosing.

Would you buy it?

Would you buy marinated meat at the grocery store?

I wouldn’t.

I want to know what I’m actually paying for—and what’s been added to it.

Take a closer look at the label next time you’re at the grocery store. You might be surprised by what you find.

Would you buy it?

"I love the shaved steak from Heartstone. It’s not too fatty and has great flavor. I love sautéed mushrooms, garlic, and onions with it to smother mashed potatoes! I throw in a smidge of balsamic vinegar for a little tan
