I love it when a plan comes together! This is what can happen when a client and caterer really collaborate. We started discussing the shower in late spring. We talked color palettes, party layout, decor and items we would use. We met a couple times before the shower to see what she had and what I had and how we would put it all together. I went the day before and helped with getting a basic layout and getting a more perfected plan together.

The day of came and the only real worry was the weather. It gave us a bit of scare with damp/cool morning, but just as the party was coming together the sun came out and everything fell into place!

Don’t get me wrong, almost any event, party, wedding, etc is going to have a tiny glitch here or there. There will always be a something you think about last minute, but this one was planned so well and we had so much prepared, it was easy to make a quick pivot and fix it. Also, the mother of the bride is great with decor and party planning so she always has a backup plan in the back of her mind. She has a real eye for decor and details. I know she exhausted because she worked so hard on this shower.

Sometimes the best thing you can do is work together!

That being said, I’m excited to share a little of what is going on behind the scenes lately at Saving Thyme.

I want to introduce you all to Ashley, owner of Dem 2 Brothers and a Grill here in Charleston. Ashley is also a caterer, and over time, what started as simply knowing each other has turned into a friendship that I’m really grateful for.

We’ve decided to do something that I think more small businesses should do… work together instead of looking at each other as competition. We will still have our own separate businesses, but when one of us needs some extra hands, we’re going to be there for each other. And after having Ashley work with me on two events in the last three days, I can tell you firsthand what a difference it makes!

She just gets it.

We have the same work ethic, we both like things done a certain way, and we genuinely have fun working together. We can learn from each other, bounce ideas off each other, and help each other take on events that might otherwise be a little too much for one person.

And for me personally, having an extra set of hands means even more than you might realize. Catering is hard, physical work, and with the arthritis in my hands, having someone beside me who can jump in and help is something I truly appreciate.

But I think there’s a bigger lesson here too.

Another business doing something similar to yours doesn’t have to be your competition!

There is room for all of us!!!

Instead of always asking, “How can I compete with them?” maybe we should sometimes ask, “How can we help each other?” Because when small businesses support each other, share what we know, lend a hand when it’s needed, and celebrate each other’s success, we all have the opportunity to grow.

I’m really thankful that I’ve gotten to know Ashley, and even more thankful that I can now call her a friend and a fellow caterer I can count on. Here’s to doing more together, learning from each other, taking on bigger things, and making this crazy catering life a little easier along the way.

And Ashley… after two events in three days, I think you’re officially part of the Saving Thyme family now. 😂❤️

Not every gathering is a celebration….

Sometimes, we gather to remember, to share stories, to comfort one another, and to simply be together during a difficult time.

At Saving Thyme, I’m honored to be there for all of life’s moments, even the ones that aren’t as easy. I hope that, in some small way, providing the food allows families to focus less on what needs to be done and more on the people who matter most.

Personally, I feel food has a way of bringing people together, offering comfort, and taking care of one another when words just aren’t enough.

I know I’m on a break but I heard it was National Son Day and I can’t let that slip by. Roman, I love you so much and miss your face so bad I can’t stand it! But I wouldn’t change a thing. I’m so proud of all you have done and continue to do. Every time we talk you learn something else about being an adult and you are making all the right choices. I hope to see you very soon!

I posted on my personal page and I’m doing the same here. I haven’t posted much lately and have decided to take a much needed social media break. My mental health and even physical health hasn’t been great lately and I need some time to heal and refresh.

If you are a client or want to get ahold of me to reserve a date, I will still be answering texts, calls and emails! Do not worry if you have a party planned, I’m not totally off the rails, LOL, it’s just a lot to keep up with at times and if I have to take a break from something, this is the easiest.
