It has been quite a season for us. A monsoon season. 😒
We are located in Central Maine; Charleston.
Here is what we have available:
(All 35-40lb square bales)
Really nice second-cut alfalfa: $12 per bale.
Really nice, fine second-cut timothy/orchard grass mix pictured below: $10 per bale.
Very late first cut alfalfa. It is stemmy. $6 per bale. Like to get this gone, so if you can take all 300 bales, we can let it go for $5.
Second cut timothy/orchard grass mix that has been sprayed with a preservative (buffered propionic acid and acetic acid). $6 per bale.
Second cut alfalfa/grass mix. Heavy on alfalfa. Also sprayed with preservative. $8 per bale.
Our fields are fertilized based on soil samples. We do not use herbicides or pesticides. Our hay is weed-free, apart from a few dandelion greens, which are medicinal and delicious. 😋
We don't like using preservative because 1. It is expensive, and 2. People do not know what it is. It was done as a necessity when we couldn't get the crop to dry down below 18%. The preservative keeps the hay from getting moldy.
Research has shown that it is perfectly safe for all livestock. Buffered propionic acid and acetic acid (vinegar) are human food preservatives. I encourage you to do your own research before purchasing. Look at university studies, not just claims by manufacturers (good advice for any product).
