Here is the deal, as you know that beef is expensive and looks like it’s not going to get better anytime soon so with that in mind here’s what I would suggest. Start saving up for an upright freezer ( 12 cubic feet) or bigger so you can buy bulk beef and store it for your family.

For a 1,000 lb live-weight Black Angus steer, a good working estimate is:

* Hanging weight: about 600–640 lb, with 620 lb being a solid average.
* Packaged meat in your freezer: about 375–430 lb, depending on how it’s cut and how much is boneless/trimmed.
So the average cost of a whole steer would give you an average of 400 pounds of meat in your freezer at $11.25 a pound which includes your hamburger roast steak steaks, bones, and fat
So the next time you’re at the grocery store, look at the price of your roast steaks and compare how much you would save in the long run.

We are enjoying our time at the West Virginia State Fair this week. It’s exciting to watch the kids show their love and support for their animals and all their hard work.
