We are sad to announce the passing of a legend. At nearly 40 years old, Sparky passed away peacefully earlier this week. He was famous across the Lowcountry and sparked the love of horses for a countless number of young riders. If you’re under 35 and grew up riding in Charleston, you probably rode this pony! He was a patient teacher but had a famous naughty streak to go with it. Rest assured that it stuck with him until the end. He was WILD, sassy, and always up to something in his retirement years. The self appointed checker of all the gates was the most likely on the farm to escape and don’t let those crooked little legs fool you, he was fast! It was practically an initiation for anyone new learning how to properly double lock all gates and doors he had access to. We will greatly miss all his antics and his greeting whinnies at every feed shift quickly followed by several sassy head tosses if you weren’t moving quick enough.
Sassy, spunky, and a bit of attitude (well, maybe more than a bit)….Sparky was his name and Sparky was who he was…. He was a special little pony. ❤️
