I think Quincy might be the first shucker ever hoisted up on that stage at the PEI Raspberry Point International Shucking Competition! 🦪🏆
I was so excited to be a part of this moment and to bring a little tradition from the U.S. Nationals with us to PEI — celebrating our fellow competitors and showing just how much love we have for this sport and for each other.
It made the moment even more special for me having Andy Rogers right there with me. Andy and I have been together in this crazy little oyster world, doing competitions and events for years, so getting to share a moment like this on the PEI stage meant a lot.
Competitive oyster shucking is a small world, but it’s an incredibly passionate and talented one. We compete hard. We push each other to be faster and better. But we also support each other, celebrate each other, and genuinely want to see this sport and the people in it succeed.
I hope everyone in that audience got a glimpse of just how special our oyster community is. We come from different places and compete under different flags, but we’re connected by this wonderfully niche thing that somehow brought all of us together.
And a huge thank you to the PEI Shellfish Festival and Raspberry Point Oyster Co. for continuing to give us a stage to do what we love. Events like this don’t happen without an incredible amount of work and support behind the scenes. Thank you for believing in competitive oyster shucking and giving this little community of ours the opportunity to come together, compete, and share our passion with everyone watching.
And a very special thank you to Oyster South for helping sponsor Andy’s and my trip to PEI and helping us get there to represent the Southern oyster community. That support means more than you know, and moments like this are exactly why supporting this wonderfully niche little sport and the people in it matters. 🦪❤️
Congratulations, Quincy! What a moment. 🦪❤️
This is oyster shucking. This is our community. And damn, do we love it.
