Kirkland and Caol Isla won’t admit this, but the Kirkland Islay Scotch is made by Caol Isla. We compared the Kirkland brand to the Caol Isla 12 year and the Kirkland Islay Scotch won. I can’t believe it. $40. It’s delicious.

BOTTLE KILL! I made this bottle last a very long time. It was too good to breeze through in a month. Kings county barrel proof is one of the best whiskeys I’ve ever had. Every year they outdo themselves with a next level whiskey. Cheers to the Brooklyn squad making the best whiskey NY has to offer. It’s 8 O’clock bi***es! Drink up.

Old Forester 1924. Aged 10 years. The newest addition to the Old Forester line. I’ve been hesitant to buy this bottle since the day it was introduced to the market. 1920 is a delicious bottle and 1910 is very good. Their Birthday Bourbon is currently priced beyond what I’m willing to pay for Old Forester so I can’t speak knowledgeably about that one. Naturally, when this came out I figured it was just another hype bottle crafted to take advantage of the bourbon boom and cash in on all us whiskey nerds afflicted with FOMO so I decided to wait until I found it at a restaurant or bar for a reasonable price for a pour. Don’t let my wife know I said this, but I was wrong. This bourbon deserves all the accolades it’s been given and then some. It has a long and perfectly viscous mouthfeel with an exquisite combination of caramel and spiced honey on the front of the palate that leads into a hard butterscotch candy on the mid to back palate. Saying I was pleasantly surprised is an understatement. Hats off to Old Forester for putting out a premium product that I will happily pay up to $150 and begrudgingly pay up to $200 for at New York’s secondary prices. I bought this 2 oz pour at Refuge in Melville on route 110 and it was worth it til the last drop. Cheers all. It’s 8 O’Clock somewhere.

Finally found a bottle of Frey Ranch uncut, unfiltered, farm strength bourbon, at a liquor store in the Blue Ridge mountains. Heavy notes of butterscotch and burnt maple syrup. 66.6% dent corn, 10% winter wheat, 11.4% winter rye, 12% two row barley, malted on site. 121.76 proof. Every step in creating this whiskey takes place on site at Frey Ranch from growing the grains to malting the barley. The quality of production is unmatched. If you’re a fan of Wild Turkey/Russell’s this is most likely right up your alley.

Lucky day for me. Only $19 above MSRP. Thirsty Thursday is gonna be good this week. Is it 8 O’Clock yet? Cheers!
