Labor Day weekend always sends me straight back to a Jimmy Buffett show in San Francisco I somehow was able to attend… standing in a crowd singing Come Monday like it was a promise instead of a song.

Summer technically has an expiration date but nobody told us here in Charleston.

So I did my best pirate impression and pulled together a lineup that proves rum season isn’t over either, from the crisp Campesino Silver all the way up to the Holmes Cay Heritage Blend for anyone who wants their rum with a decade of patience behind it. Plantation’s coconut infused Cut and Dry is sitting in there too for the people who want dessert and a buzz in the same glass.

Come by and grab one before I start singing out loud again.

Found this hiding out on my patio table this weekend and honestly it might be the most photogenic bottle we carry. Sarti Rosa is an Italian aperitivo out of Bologna since 1885, this vivid pink stuff tastes like blood orange, mango, and passion fruit had a very good idea. At 14 percent it drinks lighter than w**e but still gets the job done.

I am officially proposing a W**e Wednesday exception. Pour it over ice with a splash of prosecco and soda, add an orange slice, and pretend you are somewhere with better weather than Charleston in September. It is basically a spritz that skipped leg day and got interesting instead.

Come grab a bottle before you commit to the same sauvignon blanc you always get. I promise the ficus in the background is not included.

Welp, the radar looked like a bad omen and the porch plans got cancelled real quick. So the cork came out at the kitchen table instead. This green label situation did not care one bit about the forecast, poured out bright and citrusy like it was still supposed to be a patio w**e.

Funny how a good bottle can save a night that started going sideways.

Caught this bottle right at golden hour on the dock, condensation still beading on the glass because yesterday was a full washout and today decided to redeem itself. Rain in Charleston in the summer means one thing, everything smells like a swamp and your patio plans are cancelled. But at least the sun came back just in time last night for dinner and this Abellio Albariño from Rias Baixas earned its spot on the rail.

This one is bright and saline with a little stone fruit, basically what a sea breeze would taste like if it were w**e. Albariño was made for humidity, it does not wilt the way some whites do once they warm up a degree in your glass, which around here happens fast. Enjoy the weekend y’all!

We spent some time today actually learning how Cazcanes gets made instead of just nodding along and saying “smooth” like I usually do.

Turns out there is a whole 12 step process involving hand harvested agave, a 24 hour cook, double distillation and volcanic spring water, which explains a lot about why this stuff tastes like someone actually cared.

Blanco reposado anejo and extra anejo all lined up and all suddenly making a lot more sense.

Anyway I am now insufferable about tequila and also fully qualified to make the best margarita of your life. Let’s make some this weekend while we explain the jima harvesting process unprompted. The wife’s gonna love it.

Chilled shrimp and crab on ice and a bottle of Abellio Albariño doing its best impression of a reward for surviving another Charleston summer weekday. This is what a weeknight looks like around here in August, low effort dinner, high effort w**e choice.

Albariño from Rías Baixas is basically Spain’s answer to our humidity, bright, saline, built for seafood and doesn’t ask much of you besides a corkscrew and an appetite. This one from Abellio is citrusy up front with a little stone fruit and enough acid to cut through butter or cocktail sauce, whichever direction your shrimp are headed tonight. Grabbed it cold, poured it colder, and called it a meal.

If your weeknight routine could use an upgrade that costs less effort than takeout, this is it. Come grab a bottle and let the shrimp do the cooking, or lack thereof.

I know it’s Monday, but hear me out. I’ll be back on my summer whites wagon in a few days, promise, but this past weekend absolutely demanded some stronger reinforcements.

Enter Authentico Organic Tequila, Blanco and Reposado, both USDA certified organic and both entirely too easy to drink chilled straight out of the freezer. The Blanco is bright and peppery, built for margaritas or just a clean sip when you need clarity. The Reposado brings a little oak and caramel warmth, perfect for sipping slow while you pretend you have your life together.

Consider this your permission slip. Monday forgives almost anything if tequila is involved. Come grab a bottle and we will not tell.

Poolside Friday and this bottle of Wonderment Hyde Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc is wrapping up our week long series on whites to survive the heat.

Turns out surviving a heat wave and surviving a week of me talking about w**e on the internet requires the same amount of chilled Sauvignon Blanc so really everybody wins.

This Carneros beauty is grapefruit and lemongrass with a little herbal snap on the finish, exactly the kind of w**e that tastes like relief.

I checked the ten day forecast and unfortunately I think this series may be getting renewed for another season, so buckle up. In the meantime I am mentally fast forwarding to cooler weather and bourbon pours by a fire, but until Charleston gets that memo we will keep the whites on ice. Come grab a bottle and beat the heat with us this weekend.
