"The name 'Fruiting Bodies' for a wine is just like... so metal."

Thank you Simonne Mitchelson for reviewing our estate blend of Marechal Foch and Zweigelt for Blood of Gods and pairing it with Danish black metal (what?!?!)

This was our first red wine made with the first two red varieties we planted at the farm. And it certainly has some darkness to it... from the teinturier Foch to the rustic tannins of the Zweigelt. We're so stoked for the shout out in the Spring/Summer issue of Blood of Gods.

While the 2024 vintage of Fruiting Bodies is sold out, the best way to get your hands on the next vintage once it emerges from barrel is to join our wine club! Sign up at https://folklorwinecider.orderport.net/wine-club/s8715/folklor-and-friends

We're so happy to introduce Chef Elizabeth Marcano & Sazón Latin Flavors who will be popping up at the farm several times this summer!

She'll be serving pastelitos and tequenos at our Riesling Release Party & Venezuelan Pop-Up this Sunday, June 14 from noon until they're sold out. Music at 1:00pm by Matt Sucaet.

Well let Elizabeth introduce herself in her own words ⬇️

I was born in Caracas, Venezuela, and originally trained as an architect at the Central University of Venezuela. After running my own architecture firm, life brought me to Ann Arbor, Michigan in 2003—where everything changed.

What began as cooking for family and friends became my true calling. With the support of my husband, Scott, I pursued Culinary Arts, launched My Kitchen Gourmet, and later opened Marcano’s Take Out—the first Venezuelan restaurant in the area.

After moving north, I continued my journey and found a home at Providence Farm in Central Lake, Michigan. There, I not only helped shape the daily menu with my personal touch—bringing flavors like Tres leches, quesillo and cachitos, beloved Venezuelan staples— as well as breakfast items, but I also began hosting farm-to-table dinners, a dream I had always carried. These dinners were inspired by Venezuelan and South American cuisine, allowing me to share my roots, traditions, and flavors in a meaningful way.

Through those experiences, I discovered how much I love connecting people through food and culture.

Today, through Sazón Latin Flavors, I offer cooking classes, private dining, personal chef services, and catering—always showcasing the vibrant, soulful flavors of Venezuela and South America.

This work is deeply personal to me. It reflects my journey, my heritage, and my belief that food is one of the most beautiful ways to connect people.

My mission is simple: to connect people through food, culture, and unforgettable experiences.

Thank you to Miles MacClure for putting the spotlight on the impact climate change is having on Northern Michigan viticulture in recept coverage on IPR and Bridge Magazine. You can read the story at https://www.interlochenpublicradio.org/2026-05-05/northern-michigans-wine-growing-region-adapts-to-a-changing-climate

The volatility of Michigan's climate from season to season is having a profound impact on Northern Michigan farmers and residents alike - from ice storms to torrential downpours, late frosts and intermittent drought.

Here at Folklor, our strategy to prepare for this volatility has been sustainability through genetic diversity. We intentionally grow a wide variety of grapes that hit different phenological stages of development at different points in the season. We grow both cold hardy hybrids from 5 different breeding programs as well as vitis vinifera varieties alongside tree fruits in our apples, pears and cherries.

We also dedicate ourselves to supporting the whole farm ecosystem through planting and maintaining permanent undervine and row cover, as well as leaving dedicated meadow areas that support soil microbes, insects and birds. Farming with nature, not against it.

In a very weird and frankly uncomfortable way, we are also benefiting from the warming. It means we can grow grape varieties that, in the past, could not survive and ripen this far north. It's hard not to feel opportunistic about taking advantage of the state of our climate.

We hope, if nothing else, we can leave this little slice of land just a little bit healthier than when we found it and inspire those around us to do the same.

If you want to learn more and get inspired about the role viticulture can have on the future of agriculture, we'd highly suggest listening to the interviews with Mimi Casteeel on the Beyond Organic Wine and I'll Drink to That podcasts. These are annual re-listens for us.

The new vintage of Row Boat Riesling is here!

This is our 5th vintage working with Riesling from the Altonen Vineyard in Antrim County. Consistent in its pronounced aromatics and bright acidity with notes of apple and ripe lemon, this wine reminds us of walking in the orchards that grow alongside the vines.

The grapes were picked by hand, and pressed slowly and gently. Native yeast fermentation using a pied de cuve of Folklor estate grapes.

Join us this Sunday, June 14 for a Riesling Release Party & Venezuelan Pop-Up featuring a pop-up by Sazon Latin Flavors - South American Cuisine and Beyond Chef Elizabeth Marcano will be serving beef and chicken pastelitos, and tequenos from 12 noon until they're sold out. Music by Matt Sucaet at 1:00pm.

If last year was any indication, this wine will go fast! You can order a bottle (or a few!) for free on-farm pickup or shipping in Michigan at our regular webstore. We are also offering nation-wide shipping through our Vinoshipper store.

See ya Sunday!

Some scenes from the farm this week. We're growing in all sense of the word 🌱

1,600 new vines going in of L'Acadie Blanc, Zweigelt and even a little Pinot Noir 🍇

We have healthy growth on most of the vines, although with the cooler spring it's been a slow start. Happy to report we made it through with no frost damage.

We're past petal fall in the orchard and the fruitlets are starting to form 🍏🌸

Cover crops, meadows and the garden are filling in 🌻🌾

If anyone has any doubts, the 2026 growing season is here!
