I have been anticipating the trailer for Elsinore for quite some time. As Sir Ian McKellen once said of Ian Charleson’s performance of Hamlet at the National Theatre, it was “the perfect Hamlet.”

Allowing the circumstances of his death from AIDS to be known publicly was, in itself, a huge step forward, though the fight was—and continues to be—far from over. It is still difficult to comprehend that, despite ACT UP fighting for more than a decade, meaningful action in the United States did not come until 1997. So many lives were lost because of fear, ignorance, stigma, and, at times, an absence of basic humanity.

But I’ll stop being negative and focus on Andrew Scott and the rest of the incredible cast, as well as the director, producers, and everyone involved. I cannot wait to see what they have done with Elsinore.

Still reeling from Dolly Parton‘s death. She projected a love of life, kindness, and acceptance that seemed to reach everyone. then to wake up to the news of Tim Curry passing today was another blow. Two extraordinary artist, each completely their own, and both an inspiration to so many. They broke the mold, and thank goodness they did. Both Dolly and Tim made those of us who sometimes felt we didn’t quite belong feel seen. They gave us permission to celebrate exactly who we are, naturally and unapologetically. So tonight, we will raise a glass to two remarkable souls who reminded us that being different isn’t something to hide- it is something to celebrate.
To Dolly. To Tim. To Living life on your own terms. Much love.
