🧑‍🍳Good morning, America. 🇺🇸 🤝🇨🇴 Yesterday was day number two here in I’m reporting. It is local. We were here in Quibdo at the capital of Chocó. We went to see local bakeries. 🥖

The damage to some of them is huge.

The biggest challenge is their rent, and there is nothing that we can do to fix their buildings. But we are thinking about how we will support them when they have to close the bakery for a month, two months, three months; we are working on whether the building has to be fixed.

Also, we drove through a lot of properties that were totally demolished and no longer exist.

The need is huge.

Friends 🧑‍🍳, I just want to give you my first report after yesterday. It was my first day here in (delivering Earthquake Relief and hope) It was a very long and demanding day, but it was worth it. 🙌 Manolo Betancur

Thank you to all the people in to all the organizations, nonprofits, and churches that support me; and By Immigrant Hands to my board; to Myers Park United Methodist Church Myers Park UMC Missions Department; and to Luisa Luisa Pino for putting all these logistics together. Thank you also to the 🇨🇴 State Representative James Mosquera, James Mosquera Torres who brought his team together. Their hospitality has been amazing.

We also showed the community the Artisan Bakery we are going to build here. It was so nice to meet the community and get their feedback because we are going to build all of this together.

And especially, thank you to everyone in and Cocomán and to the beautiful, beautiful people of Chocó. I’m in love with you guys. And please forgive me—it took me 50 years to come here.

You are Colombia, and you are the best of Colombia. I love you, Chocó.

🧑‍🍳 Manolo’s Bakery Condemns an Act of Vandalism and Intimidation Targeting Its Business and the Newly Unveiled Made In America Mural Manolo Betancur Eulizerd The Change Baker Place

📃 Monday, August 24, 2026. Manolo’s Bakery is informing the media and the public that during the early morning hours of July 7, our business was targeted by vandalism and intimidation.

Individuals who have not yet been identified threw eggs at the front entrance of our immigrant-owned small business and at the newly unveiled “Made In America mural, a work of art that celebrates the contributions of the immigrant community to the United States.

While the investigation is just beginning and we do not yet know who is responsible or what motivated this act, we believe it is important to inform the community and share the photographs and security camera footage documenting what occurred.
For nearly three decades, Manolo’s Bakery has been a gathering place for families of all backgrounds and a business committed to promoting respect, solidarity, and hope. We cannot normalize acts of intimidation or allow them to escalate into something more serious.
Today, we filed a formal police report with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and will fully cooperate with the investigation. We encourage anyone with information about this incident to contact law enforcement.
We are grateful for the continued support of our customers, neighbors, and the entire Charlotte community. We will continue building community through bread, hard work, and hope.

Betancur also plans to bring that message to the Charlotte City Council Public Forum on Monday evening, calling on city leaders to recognize the broader economic consequences these enforcement actions are having across Charlotte.
The City Council Public Forum begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center, 600 E. Fourth St., Charlotte, NC 28202.

Manolo Betancur Denies Former U.S. Border Patrol Commander Gregory Bovino Entry to Manolo’s Bakery

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — On Sunday, August 23, Manolo Betancur, owner of Manolo’s Bakery and longtime advocate for Charlotte’s immigrant community, confronted former U.S. Border Patrol Commander-at-Large Gregory Bovino at the bakery and refused to allow him inside, telling him he was not welcome at Manolo’s Bakery, on its property, or in Charlotte.

The encounter, documented in photographs, became a tense conversation about the human and economic impact of immigration enforcement on Charlotte’s immigrant families, workers, and small businesses.

During the conversation, Bovino asked Manolo why he regularly carries his U.S. passport.

Manolo responded:

“Because people are being pursued because of the color of their skin, not because of their nationality.”

Manolo says the issue goes far beyond one confrontation.

“This is bigger than Manolo’s Bakery. Families are afraid, employees are afraid to go to work, customers are afraid to leave their homes, and small businesses are paying the price.”

Manolo’s Bakery previously reported losses of approximately $50,000–$64,000 following Operation Charlotte’s Web. Many Small business are afected. Family s broken. Separated
