According to the weather forecast it would appear as though summer has come to an end today. We spent the day making the last of the tomato sauce and gathering the squash from the garden. I also made some fresh salsa to freeze dry for a taste of summer in the middle of the winter. It felt fitting that the night ended with the Harvest moon. Goodbye summer hello fall 🍂

Now available. Meishan Pork! Please message.
We have freezer pork available for purchase as well as live on the hoof pork. Our on the hoof pork ages are, 1 year old ready to process, 8 month old ready to process now or could get larger, and in a couple weeks we will have 8 week old piglets that will be available.
Meishans are a heritage pig breed that takes longer to grow out, has redder meat, and produces some of the best lard.
If you want large hams, reduced fat, and fast grow times, Meishans are not for you, you will want more commercial breeds.
If you want superior lard and better flavor Meishan Pork might be what you're looking for.

It's been pretty cold here lately. Life slowed down and it's been a lot of keeping animals warm, making comfort foods and canning odds and ends. Today however it's sunny and 32° so we've been enjoying some outdoors time and even the animals have popped out of the barn for a little vitamin D.

Monday morning Whitley went from walking around like it's a normal day to building the biggest nest possible and her milk line really came in. I called babies in the next 24 hours. She was still super spunky around 9:00 that night so when Joe asked if he should check on her at 11:00 before bed I said "no she won't have them that quick. I'll check when I get up at 3:45 for work". Check I did and I found 7 lively babies and everyone was clean and dry. Whitley has proven to be a great mother so far. Birthed all by herself, lays down gently as not to crush her babies, and the way she talks to them when I walk in to check on her is about the cutest thing.

We had a very productive day in the garden and the field. God blessed us with a touch under 80 degree and sunny day. It was simply gorgeous! The garden was put in a little later than usual this year so produce is just now starting to trickle in. This is my favorite time of the garden (well second to when tomatoes are ready) when everything is still green and looking vibrant. The girls were awesome helpers and they loved taking their breaks from gardening by playing in the corn rows. Have a great rest of the weekend. 😀

Well this was a pleasant surprise to find on this beautiful Sunday evening. We knew we had a broody hen but this is not her. That hen is still tucked away on her nest in the loft. These 5 chicks were hatched in a secret nest. Welcome to the farm little ones.

Today's focus was getting the garden caught up on. We tilled, tied up tomatoes and harvested some garlic scapes. We did a few other things around the farm and finally got the hammock hung. We are so thankful for friends who help us accomplish more in a day than we can on our own. It was perfect timing on the garden too because here comes the rain. We had 6 turkeys hatch in the incubator so that's been a fun and cute addition to the farm.
