Little Sugar Creek Volunteer day!
Friday 8/28 (6p-dark); Saturday 8/29 (8a-11 or too hot)
Rain date-the following weekend.
Come and see what a communal foodshare garden is all about as we transition from summer to fall crops.
*Chores we'll tackle:
*Clean all beds of old plants, grass, and marigold
*Fluff old soil
*Cover designated plots with silage cloth
*Feed, add fresh soil, and seed designated plots
*Clean vines and w**ds from all the fences
*Cut and w**d the common areas and between paths
*Break down old grow bags, clean their staging area, set up new grow bags
*If weather permits, spray walkways with vinegar
This event is for adults, 18 years and older.

For those of you who allow your dogs to p*e and p**p along the garden's fence line, in the fig trees, and amongst the pecan and mulberry patches, stop. That is very nasty and highly dumb on your part.

Charlotte Water is moving to Drought Stage 2 with Mandatory Water Restrictions starting May 15 due to ongoing dry conditions. Here's what you need to know:

✅ Lawn irrigation is limited to 2 days/week, between 6 p.m. overnight to 6 a.m.
Odd-numbered addresses → Tuesday & Saturday
Even-numbered addresses → Wednesday & Sunday

✅ Pool top-offs are permitted Thursdays & Sundays, 6 p.m. overnight to 6 a.m. only

🚫 Prohibited until further notice:
- Washing vehicles at home
- Filling residential pools
- Non-essential power washing
- Decorative water features
- Fundraiser car wash events

Hi everyone,

I appreciate all the inquiries about garden space. I’m happy to share that we are not in need of more gardeners at this time. I am keeping a waitlist of interested volunteers and will reach out should a space open up.
In the meantime, if you stop by the garden, please do not freely enter the space, ask for tours, or offer unsolicited advice. This garden has been intentionally shaped as a safe, peaceful space for our gardeners and invited friends to grow food, build community, and enjoy their time here without interruption.
We appreciate your respect for the boundaries of the space and your understanding as we protect the environment our gardeners have worked hard to create. Thank you for your support.

Big thanks to our first corporate group of the year... Ally Charlotte. As part of EarthShare NC, they gave the garden new curb appeal and a safer entrance. And they took home the trophy for Overall best group.

This time of year, we're always seeing this plant pop up around the gardens. While it may look like wild carrot, it's actually poison hemlock! The whole plant is extremely poisonous and often causes skin irritation from handling so we tend to remove them from the garden.
The easiest way to tell apart poison hemlock and Queen Anne's Lace (wild carrot) is to look at the stems. "The queen has hairy legs" is a common mnemonic to say that poison hemlock has no hairs on the stem while Queen Anne's Lace does.
