A Hundred new holes dug to start planting for our new elderberry grove. These elderberry trees will not produce for a few years but we are planning ahead.

Elderberries are packed with antioxidants and vitamins that may boost the immune system.

One of the best-known uses of elderberry is for fighting the flu. The berries contain compounds that keep the flu virus from attaching to the body's cells, so it can shorten the duration of your illness and possibly lessen the severity.

Harvesting scallions all day.

The last of the winter plants are out and all the new spring seedlings are being planted. Looking forward to filling the greenhouses back up.

Harvesting more of the winter veggies and greens to finish clearing out the glasshouse. Then some bed prep before the seedlings get transplanted.

Weather can be a bit strange in Vermont during the spring. One day it’s hot and sunny and the next it’s freezing and snowing. Thankfully we replaced all the heaters recently and everything is operational. Full steam ahead.

Saturday work harvesting the winter crops and clearing the beds. We will run the broad fork through the soil before the next planting.

Such a beautiful spring we are having here in Vermont. The greenhouse gets up to 80 during the day.

Harvesting Bok Choy to clear out this greenhouse to make room for the next round. After a recent soil test we need to make a few amendments then we are off.
Everything we produce is USDA and REAL organic certified.

We are starting up our banker plants. These are mobile habitats that provide alternative hosts, prey, or food for commercially available natural enemies. This is all part of our successful use of biological control in our greenhouses.

Banker plants offer a novel nonchemical approach to managing commonly encountered pests in the greenhouse. Most banker plants that target aphids consist of a nonpest cereal grain aphid and a parasitoid that attacks both the nonpest and pest aphids occurring on crop plants. The use of banker plants may provide more effective, long-term pest control than pesticide applications. We will be planting banker plants into our greenhouse over the next month. Gearing up for another great season.

We are replacing all the vent arm assemblies in our glass greenhouse. They were all the original components installed back in 1994. It goes to show how purchasing quality components pays off. 25 years of service is pretty good.

It took us a full day to disassemble 12 of the vent arms and another full day to install 12 new ones. All the work was completed on ladders or scaffolding. We still have another 12 to remove and replace to finish the job. Then hopefully we’ll get another 25 years out of them.

It was snowing outside when we started and by midday we were in shorts up on the scaffolding.
