Calves that have incurred traumatic births are often are lethargic, clumsy and have little interest in nursing. These babies may benefit from a simple procedure called the “Madigan Squeeze Technique.”

Some of you may wonder why we have lambs born in the middle of winter, and not wait till spring. I wonder my self at 2:00 am and -10 degrees, but it mostly boils down to money. Usually the earliest lambs to market bring the highest price of the season. Also on our farm I have found winter lambs to be much healthier and faster growing, once a lamb is dried off and gets their first milk they can thrive in very cold weather as long as they are out of the wind. These are just a couple of reasons we do what we do. there are many more. There is no one right way to raise sheep each farm is different it just seems to work for me.

Hi folks I had a conversation the other day with a friend about feeding large round bales. Our barn is set up to feed small squares, but in the summer I don't have the help to put up many squares so I put up large rounds this I can do by myself, the only problem is that they are hard to use in my barn if anyone has ever tried to tear apart a round bale with a pitchfork you know it's a lot of work, I have tried through the years to cut them with chainsaws and antique hay knives and hand saws still a lot of work. Here's a little contraption I built out of some old parts and steel I had laying around, the video is a little long and not that well made but you will get the idea, sometimes the littlest things make me the happiest.
