Bellair Farm is a diversified vegetable and livestock farm located near Charlottesville, VA.

We grow vegetables without the use of chemical fertilizers or pesticides, and we raise chickens, hogs, and cattle on pasture using rotational grazing systems. Bellair Farm CSA is located on historic Bellair Farm, 900 beautiful acres just south of Charlottesville, Va. Our goal is to connect our member families to the land, their food and their farmer. We grow 50 different types of veggies on 25 acres in addition to some fruit and flowers all under strict adherence to the organic standards. In addition to the veggies, we also have chickens for eggs and meat and pigs on the farm. We sell to restaurants and at farmer's markets, but our main focus is our CSA. Our CSA operates on a self-serve principle that allows our members to choose what goes into their share every week. In addition to that share, our members are welcome to enjoy the acre+ of Pick-Your-Own crops, our annual farm festivals and our Saturday activities designed to educate the community about sustainable agriculture. Bellair is beginning the process to be put under conservation easement.

This week, Bellair owner Cynthia and farmer Michelle have been hosting folks from Piedmont Environmental Council to do our "baseline data" report for the conservation easement process. If you don't know, a conservation easement is a legal document that restricts future development and uses --- in perpetuity. Perpetuity! That's a long time!

It's pretty exciting and also very important to get right, in the many considerations that come along with this. Lots of the estates neighboring Bellair already have easements like this, so we will be joining our neighbors in keeping Secretary's Road pastoral for many future generations

Lower Sherwood Llamas are joining us for Fall Fest!

We are so happy to host Stephen and his wonderful llamas again. These llamas are used to crowds, love people and like accompanying you on walks! Stephen is a wonderful person to talk to and loves his llamas dearly. You can tell by their adorable names: Fitz, Florian, Domino, Fleming, Teriyaki.... preview the whole herd on Lower Sherwood's website and then we can see who ends up coming to Bellair!

We're hearing lots of things about beef in the news lately... in case you'd like a reminder of what makes ours so good:

We primarily raise Red Devons, an English heritage breed, as well as Black Angus mixed in. Our breeding stock is specifically selected for their ability to perform well and finish well on a 100% grass diet. Our cattle have never touched grain. They are moved to fresh pasture every 2-3 days and graze on diverse cover crop mixes (like sorghum-sudangrass, cowpeas, buckwheat, and sunhemp) and grases (including native eastern gamma grass and big bluestem). Our beef is dry aged for 2 weeks before cutting, which adds excellent flavor.

This week we're featuring Beef Cheeks. Have you ever tried this limited cut? It has an intensely beefy, deep flavor and does well slowly cooked to break down all of the collagen. Use for tacos, serve over polenta with some of the braising liquid, or add to a hearty stew. We've added a few of these to the online store, but feel free to email us if you're interested in more.

This is our last week with these guys in the field for the season, and we hands down could not have done it without them. Each year, they become more integral to what we do here, and we're very lucky to have them here with us at Bellair.
