*UPDATE/CLARIFICATION:
We want to clarify that the intent of this post was never to criticize FF/Paramedic Scott Brown or his decision to leave. If the original wording gave that impression, that was not our intention, and we apologize for that.
Scott has been a valued member of our department, a great firefighter/paramedic, and someone we are genuinely sorry to see go. We wish him nothing but the best moving forward and thank him for everything he has contributed during his time in Charlton.
The purpose of this post was to bring attention to the continued loss of experienced members and the staffing challenges facing our department not to place responsibility on Scott or any other member who has made the decision to leave.
(We have left the original post unchanged below for transparency)
——————————————————————————
Today we were notified of yet another resignation within our ranks. Firefighter/Paramedic Scott Brown announced his 2 week notice, now dropping our line paramedics down to only 4. One of those paramedics just obtained their Massachusetts Paramedic certification this week, requiring this paramedic to ride with another paramedic for several months as they begin treating patients and learning the ropes to be able to provide the highest level of prehospital care available to our residents.
FF Brown brought his paramedic skills and years of career firefighting experience to Charlton. Additionally, FF Brown was already fire academy trained, meaning he would not have to attend the fire academy as a member of Charlton Fire, in turn saving the town a significant amount of time and money.
We thank FF Brown for his efforts during his time with us along with the other 16 members that have left over the last 21 months.
We will continue to do more with less, given the minimal appropriate resources available to protect the lives and property of Charlton.
The tax payers, residents and everyone that travels through the town of Charlton deserve better.
