Thank you Madrid-Waddington Central School District for hosting career day today! We had so much fun. We loved seeing all the kids and being able to talk to them about farming. If every kid goes into farming that said they wanted to be a farmer, then the future is looking bright. 😎 🐄 🚜

Looking to hire a full time certified Mixologist for the cows. Ok. You don't have to be certified, but experience helps (not required). Duties would include, but not limited to feeding cows, running a payloader, servicing mixer truck and payloader. Being reliable is a must. Merry Christmas to all our family and friends near and far. This morning everyone was up and going at 6:00 am to get the cows fed and happy. Thank you Earl for coming in on Christmas and helping to get this job done. With 3 mixer trucks and three pay loaders running the job was wrapped up quick, so the excited kids could get home to unwrap gifts. (Earl was so excited to get home to unwrap gifts, he didn't stick around for the picture. Lol)

While Dad was busy baling soybean straw, the next generation was busy running grain cart while his grandfather combined, and the other one was running a different combine. At 10 and 12 they certainly know what it means to work hard. You couldn't have dragged them away from their jobs today. Their smiles were from ear to ear.

This month, you will likely see trucks like this making trips to nearby farm fields. These tanker trucks are carrying a very valuable resource: manure. This byproduct produced by the cows is certainly not just waste. It contains nutrients, like nitrogen and phosphorus, that plants need to grow and thrive.

By applying manure as a natural fertilizer, farms can reduce the amount of chemical fertilizer purchased, which is especially important when commodity prices have skyrocketed due to the Russia-Ukraine war. Manure application is an economical management practice that reduces farm waste, improves soil heath, and promotes the growth of high quality crops.

First load of cows being brought to the new barn. Safe to say all the girls who were brought to their new home were happy. Ultimately this new barn will replace the original barn on the farm. When the parlor is complete and all the cows are moved it will be the first time in 137 years that a cow has not been milked in that barn. It creates a very nostalgic feeling but it is one of necessity.
