Join us September 25–27, 2026 at the Osceola County Fairgrounds in Evart for a weekend full of hands-on homesteading classes, learning, and fun!

We have a great variety of classes planned, including sourdough, fresh milled flour, kombucha, soft cheese, fruit tree grafting, mushroom growing, tallow making, composting, sewing basics, and much more!

Honey is naturally a low-moisture food. Adding water can increase its moisture content and potentially change its stability.

Why That’s Important:
Once you change the fundamental characteristics of honey, you can’t automatically rely on the regulatory treatment given to pure honey. A diluted honey product should be evaluated based on the finished formulation and process.

9. 🍭 Honey Sticks Depend on What You’re Putting in Them

Plain honey sticks are simply honey packaged in a convenient format. But adding other ingredients can change the regulatory classification of the finished product.

Michigan’s current Cottage Food list specifically recognizes flavored honey as an allowable product. (Michigan⁠)

Why That’s Important:
Don’t assume that a honey stick containing cinnamon, fruit flavoring, peppermint, or another ingredient is automatically prohibited — but don’t assume it’s automatically exempt either. The finished formulation matters.
