We raise Red Wattle Pork, pastured chicken, all-natural angus beef, grass fed lamb, and free range eggs. McCabe Family Farms is located about 30 miles South of Rochester, Minnesota and is nestled in the beautiful valleys of Fillmore County. “The reason we started growing our own food is because we wanted a source of, nutritionally dense, better tasting food for our family. So, we began to raise our own meat. In doing so, we found more people were interested and looking for the same thing we were, but didn't know where to find it. We had the resources to expand and it quickly became a small business for us. It's also important for us to leave the land we care for in better shape than when we started. We're beginning to implement regenerative agricultural practices, such as rotational grazing, cover cropping, and adding animal diversity to the farm, which all work together to heal and build the soil.”

Why are our sheep looking a little rough this time of year? 🐑

These are hair sheep — which means instead of growing a heavy wool coat that needs to be sheared, they naturally shed their winter coat in the spring and summer. So yes… they can look a little scraggly while they’re blowing their coats out!

Hair sheep are lower maintenance, do well on pasture, and are great for farms like ours because they don’t require yearly shearing like wool sheep do. Nature basically handles their haircut for us. ✂️☀️

The awkward shedding phase doesn’t last forever… thankfully 😆
