We’re returning to the gram just in time for Starting with day 1: introduction!

Joe and Sarah here, beekeeping in Chattanooga, TN.

Joe has been beekeeping for the past 5 years and Sarah has been learning with him the past 2! We have 25 colonies and hoping to continue to grow!

And last but not least, bullet the bee-cat was born a real natural. She’s the only one in the operation who doesn’t bother with a veil anymore 🐈‍⬛

Today we showed one of our new beekeeper friends how to do a sugar roll varroa mite test. We usually opt for an alcohol wash test for more accuracy but we appreciate the hopeful survival of the bees with the sugar test!

We returned the bees to the hive entrance when we were done using them for the test. This picture shows the contrast of the sugar coated bees vs. the bees that weren’t used.

The powdered sugar bees will clean themselves and each other so that they can resume their normal activities for the day.
