●Savannah River Brewing Co Catherine's Reserve

Savannah River Brewing Co. Is putting out some crazy good craft beer! One of our favorites is the Catherine's Reserve!

Stats 📊: Russian-Style Imperial Stout. 10.5% ABV aged on Amburana staves.

Nose👃: Extremely delicious aromas. I get like elephant ear note (confectionery sweetness and sweet baked goods). I also get notes of dark chocolate and vanilla.

Palate👅: The palate is super creamy. That dark chocolate returns along with some vanilla and caramel.

Savannah River Brewing Co. Absolutely killed it with this Stout! If you are ever in the area, make it a point to visit this brewery! You won't regret it! Cheers 🍻

•Kuhn's Top 5 Small/ Craft distilleries

One thing Kuhn & I are trying to do this year is explore more small and craft distilleries. Despite still being relatively new to the whiskey world, we have come to find out that small and craft distilleries put out some of the most interesting and tasty whiskey! So this new series is to help highlight some of these drams! Feel free to save this for later 😉.

Second City: Small distillery in Augusta Georgia. Very unique profile but great taste! If you like beam profiles, you'll like this!

Sagamore: A Rye craft distillery! Huge flavors, great history. Give their Rye a shot! You may find you love it.

Tennessee Legend: Small distillery with a huge variety of drams. Their Tennessee whiskey and bourbon is great and definitely unique.

J.T. Meleck: Ever had rice whiskey? Well J.T. Meleck puts out some phenomenal craft rice whiskey that will blow you away.

Chattanooga Whiskey Co: Easily one of our favorite craft distillerys. With their unique profile, experiments, and style, they are one of a kind and truly awesome.

You might have heard of some of these companies. Maybe not. And obviously some of these drams aren't available everywhere. But we wanted to share some of what we have found and enjoyed! And if your ever in the area of any of these distilleries, you can pull this post back up and try them out. Here's to exploring the whiskey world! Cheers 🌎🥃

•Kuhn's Pours

The 10 year is one of those bourbons for me that I always come back to and get a quick reminder of how good it is. Sweet, oaky, spicy, with a tang of cherry cola. Makes me really want to try the 13 year...if I can ever find it.

What is a whiskey you come back to and get reminded why you like it?

•Kuhn's Pours

With such fine weather, Kuhn & I have been going out and hiking a lot more lately. One of our favorite places to hike follows this one stream that leads to a lake. Once we get to the lake, I sit and sometimes sip a pour while Little swims.

On today's hike I decided to bring this Experimental Batch No.47 single pot still from
It's only April but this whiskey is already climbing my ladder for my favorite whiskey of the year! It's just so dang good!

Smooth and creamy, layers upon layers of flavor and aromas. Think big sweetness, maple-y, breakfast savoryness, slight maltiness, and an insanely creamy and oily mouthfeel.

What's your thoughts on ?

•Kuhn's Pours

These spring days have been spectacular! Sun shining, wind blowing, flowers blooming. It's great! Coming home from work, sitting down outside, and opening up a comic is something I haven't done in awhile but enjoyed doing yesterday evening. (In case you haven't realized yet, Im a little bit of a nerd lol)

While chilling and reading some spidey, I had to enjoy a glass of the incredible Jack Daniel's Heritage Barrel. I just can't seem to get enough of it!

How are yall enjoying spring so far? Cheers 🥃🕸

●Jack Daniel's Old No. 7

Today is a special kind of review. Today marks Kuhn & I's first year of Kuhn & Whiskey's page. So what better way to celebrate than to pour the whiskey that started this whole journey in the first place? Of course that's Jack Daniel's Old No. 7!

Stats📊/ Mashbill🌾: 40% ABV (80 proof). 80% corn, 12% malted barley, and 8% rye. Charcoal Mellowed.

Nose👃: Simple, straight forward, and original deliciousness. Brown sugar, oak, caramel, baking spice, and of course that signature Jack Daniel's bannana note.

Palate👅: Matching with the aromas to a tee, you know exactly what you're getting. Brown sugar, oak, caramel, baking spice, and once again some toasty banana.

Anybody who's anybody knows what Jack Daniel's Old No. 7 is and has had it. And most appreciate it for what it is. For me, this was the whiskey that started my journey. My dad wasn't much of a whiskey drinker but he would keep a bottle of JD around on the shelf every once in awhile. After him introducing me to that, I wanted to learn more about whiskey which started this whole path. This fine Tennessee whiskey had me hooked at first sip.

Starting this page has been so much fun! From trying different whiskey's, rums, and tequila's. To visiting distilleries. And getting to know this community. It all has been a blast! A journey I had no idea where it would lead me. But as I continue on with my little pupper Kuhn, we are loving every stop and experience along the way. I wanted to give a huge thank you to all of you who view, like, share, and follow Kuhn & Whiskey. We truly appreciate everyone's support! It's crazy to think so many people enjoy our reviews and more than anything enjoy my best friend koo lol. But we are so honered. What started out as a guy and his dog just trying and writing down our thoughts on drams has turned into something amazing. And it's all possible because of you! So thank you truly from Kuhn & I! So let's raise a glass to another great year of this whiskey journey! And to you😋! Cheers 🥃

●Willet Pot Still Reserve Small Batch

The seasons are changing, the days are longer and warmer. What better way to enjoy a beautiful day than to drink some bourbon with a charcuterie board? And actually...this bourbon pairs perfectly with it 👀

Stats📊/ Mashbill🌾: 47% ABV (94 proof) non chill filtered, small batch. 65% Corn, 20% Wheat, and 15% Malted Barley.

Nose👃: The nose has this interesting strike between sweet and funky. The first overwhelming aroma I get is a mixture of goat cheese and some earthyness...no joke! That "funk" leads into some baked goods. More traditional bourbon notes arrive like brown sugar, oak, and cinnamon. Then on the back end I get a mix of tropical fruits and floral notes.

Palate👅: That cheesy-ness and funkyness 100% returns on the palate full swing. More savory than sweet. Initially I get a cheese danish flavor. Parmesan cheese notes come in too. (I swear it's not the charcuterie board in the whiskey 😂). Oak makes a presence next. A wonderful combo of butterscotch and some nuttiness is in there too. Then on the back end I get those tropical fruits like banana and mango.

Corkpop 🍾: 10/10 Super loud and crisp! Kuhn gave her seal of approval!

This is such a untraditional bourbon, and very funky. But I'm actually digging it. Even my wife loved the funky cheesy notes. At 94 proof it doesn't drink too hot but still maintains that Kentucky hug. Overall while being a very diffrent bourbon, we enjoyed it! Here's to trying new things! Cheers 🥃

●Chattanooga Whiskey Experimental Batch 047 (Single Pot Still)

On our last review we checked out the Cask 111 from which we loved! But today we're looking on the...funky side of Chattanooga Whiskey. This is one of their experimental batches. Think Irish whiskey at it's best, made by bourbon people...yeah. Wrap your mind around that 😉.

Stats📈/ Mashbill🌾: 47.5% ABV (95 proof)
Floor malted barley, Calypso unmalted barley, Pale malted barley, and Hulless malted oats.

Nose👃: The aromas from this whiskey is unlike any other. Think super thick, creamy-ness. Sweet vanilla cream, almost like icing. There are notes of baked goods as well. A lovely combo of nuttiness and almost granola comes in swinging. Notes of maple and caramel are present too. Then on the back end I get some fruits like green apples and pear with cinnamon backed up by some light oak.

Palate👅: The way the aromas match the palate is nothing short of astounding. Like a beautiful symphony that thick, full, sweet creamy-ness hits first. Again almost like vanilla bean ice cream. That grainy-ness returns too, kinda like a granola bar. A sweet combo of maple, caramel, and chocolate amerge. Then as the whiskey goes into the long finish, you're left with sweet vanilla, some fruitiness, and oak.

Cork pop🍾: 10/10 Something about Tennessee Whiskey cork pops hit different! Loud, bold, and keeps Kuhn running over to investigate 🔎.

Out of all the whiskeys we tried at the distillery this one took the cake. It is beyond smooth and creamy. This is definitely a bourbon lovers Irish whiskey. Aged greater than 4 years in toasted and charred oak barrels has done wonders to this double distilled spirit. If you have the opportunity to try this whiskey, by all means TRY IT!

●Five Wits Black IPA

Being mostly a whiskey drinker, we dont typically drink a lot of beer. Recently though, we've been trying more and more stouts and darker beers, which we like. What we have also come to realize though is we don't typically like IPA's...until now 👀.

Nose👃: Bitter sweet coffee aromas lead the way. A little bit of vanilla cream comes in too. And to round off the beer, there is a nice little spice note.

Palate👅: Similar to the aromas, that bitter sweet coffee leads on the front of the palate. There is a level of creamy-ness which is nice. Then there is a little bit of Dark chocolate on the back end.

We usually stay away from IPA's because that hopp flavor just doesn't match our palates. But Five Wits Brewing nailed this beer! At 6% it's a nice balanced beer. Super delicious and would recommend to any dark beer drinker or anyone looking for something different to try!

Cheers 🍻

●Chattanooga Whiskey Cask 111

After visiting Chattanooga Tennessee I've come to learn two things. 1. Chattanooga Whiskey is becoming one of my favorite distillerys. And 2. Chattanooga Whiskey is becoming one of my favorite whiskeys 🙈.

Nose👃: The nose is overwhelmingly delightful! It's sweet, spicy, oaky, and a tad malty. In the forefront I get notes of Honey, caramel, and maple. That balance of spice enters the chat with some cinnamon. Then this combo of delicious oak and matlyness comes in.

Palate👅: That same boldness and deliciousness comes through on the palate. Sweetness leads the way with Maple syrup and pancakes. That caramel returns too. Some chocolate covered cherry flavors can be found as well. Then, going into the long finish your left with this maple-y oak flavor. Don't even get me started on the ooey gooey, thick mouth feel this bourbon has. (It's incredibly smooth and thick.)

Cork pop🍾: 10/10 Super loud and deep! Kuhn perked up immediately and came to investigate the bottle. 100% got her seal of approval.

One of my favorite things about is how open they are about their process. From mashbills, fermentation, distillation, barrel aging and techniques. It's awesome. And this Tennessee High malt straight bourbon is no diffrent. Coming in at 55.5% ABV (111 proof) the flavors and aromas are to die for. The mash is very interesting being yellow corn, malted rye, caramel malted barley, and honey malted barley. Then it's rested in toasted and charred oak barrels for greater than 2 years. Chattanooga Whiskey is putting out some serious bangers! If you haven't tried out any of their stuff yet, let this be your sign, TRY IT! Their experimental batches are incredible too! Stay on the lookout out for our review of one of their experimental bathes soon 👀

Cheers 🥃

●WanderLinger "Fade to Black" American Stout

While visiting Chattanooga TN, we wanted to explore outside our whiskey bubble and try some beer. Coming across this gem was awesome!

Nose👃: Dark, bold, simply great. Notes of Dark chocolate, roasted almonds, and even some malty notes were present.

Palate👅: That boldness makes it's way to the palate too. That bold, deep, thick Dark Chocolate comes in first. Dark roasted coffee and some maltyness arrives too.

At 8.2% ABV this American Stout is simply wonderful! Thick mouthfeel, sweet & bitter action, and some malty flavors are so delicious! If you're ever in the area, stopping at Wanderlinger Brewing Company is 100% worth it! Cheers 🍻
