"So what do you do all winter?"

On our farm, a lot of winter is spent cleaning up and repairing the things we couldn't get to during the busy growing season.

Each year we try to improve our efficiency and organization (which is often an uphill battle as farmers with ADHD 😁).

It felt great to get this little project out of the way! The compost area is cleaned up and ready to make more compost for next year

Yesterday was Merl’s birthday.

When a friend has a birthday, I like to cook them a meal that they want. It’s fun and gratifying for all but today (and yesterday actually) was even more special.

Merl wanted housemade raviolis, and tiramisu and so yesterday Allie and I made the tiramisu so it could set up overnight. Today, I made the stuffings and sauces while Allie and Merl made the ravioli. We’d settled on two types with two sauces: spinach pasta sheets with spinach, artichokes, and goat cheese with a chicken sausage pesto cream sauce and butternut squash pasta with butternut and mascarpone filling with a sage infused brown butter. We decided we also needed a protein and settled on lobster tails.

The results were pretty damn spectacular. For me, who is normally pretty selfish with her food stylings the effortless teamwork was an added bonus. We just flow so well together and I’m so thankful for this every day.

This is a special place, and sharing it with anyone and especially with each other….I’ve never experienced community in quite this way.

This meal was spectacular. That we all contributed to it, happily, made it epic.

Happy birthday, Merl!

Guess that seed! We're sowing cover crop today with the help of the rain. This is a new field so she's going to take a lot of love before she is ready for spring.
