As you may recall about a month ago I asked if anyone wanted to test this No-Sugar-Added Breakfast Bread recipe I had been working on.

Well, Tawnya White, Child Nutrition Supervisor
at Griffin School District #324 in WA state took on the challenge!

Here are her pics and what she had to say about it!

"So yesterday we tried the recipe three different ways (one batch with the fruit sweetener, one batch with half fruit sweetener, half honey and a third batch with just honey). We tried them all & was happiest with the mixture of half the fruit sweetener & half honey. The one with just sweetener was on the drier side compared to the mix one. The one with all honey didn’t look as appealing & just wasn’t as good as the mixed one. Here are pictures from the testing."

Support from your district’s Administration is critical to making the move to scratch cooking. I hope your boss is as supportive as Jon was for me!

Something I've found that really helps is having a compelling VISION for your Child Nutrition program.

Get serious and sit down with your team and brainstorm what the ”best program ever” could look like. This type of strategic-thinking, the crafting of a compelling VISION Statement will almost miraculously "light the path" that you need to take.

Your VISION will give you not only something your team can use to see the first or next steps on your scratch-cook journey, but is also something you can share and show progress toward when presenting to your leadership team, school board, and community.

When you share your vision of feeding students better, people will be so much more willing to help you move your plan forward!

Trust me on this. Having a compelling vision is critical to getting to your ideal state!

There's just something magical about cooking with farm-fresh produce 😍

Farm to School?! That's a dumb idea. Said NO ONE EVER!

When I was a Food Service Director at Wenatchee Schools, I could never have imagined serving locally grown, organic produce in my program.

I was always so shocked by the prices I'd see at the grocery store for the organic stuff and just assumed it was way out of reach for a school meals program.

Well was I ever wrong! I found an organic farmer about 40 miles from our district and they bent over backwards to make organic produce a reality for us!

Half the fun of local purchasing is getting to know your farmer. Jim Baird was my local grower. Great guy!

Farmers love-love-love seeing the food they grow get directly into the bellies of hungry kids at school!

F2S seriously ROCKS, but you need to brag about what you’re buying to everyone in your community.

Anyone else remember looking forward to Chili and Cinnamon Roll day?

Sounds a little weird (or at least a little mid-west) but, seriously who can resist a scratch-made cinnamon roll!

Cool thing...the dough recipe I use in my trainings is one I got to develop with the person who came up with Cinnabons dough! Jerilyn Brusseau, what a cool lady!
