Meet our newest addition, Crickwing (named after the book by Janell Cannon). This morning, my mini me and I were cutting flowers and ran head first into this big predator in the zinnias. This is the non native mantis which can actually eat hummingbirds and butterflies. So rather than kill it, it has become our new farm mascot. We are feeding it Japanese beetles which is absolutely adores (snatched and devoured three). This enclosure took us all day to make from scrap materials. What a way to end one of our last days of summer!

A few weeks ago, I attempted to propagate this climbing honeysuckle. I used the layering method where you bury a portion of stem and wait until it grows roots. After vacation, I checked back and roots had formed. The reason was to replace the diseased climbing rose at the moon gate. I transplanted the new honeysuckle and it has adjusted wonderfully and is already starting to climb. I’m hoping this does better than the roses and attracts all the hummingbirds. The next step will be seeing if I can somehow contain a passionflower vine to climb the other side. Those vines love to show up wherever they please…

The final week of summer before school starts 😭 and I am so not ready. It always goes by too quick. Flower availability will be sporadic as we adjust to our new schedule. There will also be NO additional fall subscription spots this year as the dahlias are lackluster. If anything changes, I will be sure to let you all know. Thank you for such a wonderful summer ☺️

Nearly finished with 50+ bud vases for tomorrow’s backyard wedding. It has been so much fun putting all these flowers together for a special celebration. Excited to share a little something extra tomorrow. Enjoy your Friday evening!

Zinnias are stealing the show! Can’t wait to make some fun bouquets tomorrow with these colors. I’ll also be saving some for a local wedding on Saturday. In addition to a lot of cutting, I started clearing a few of the raised beds. It entailed seed saving of nigella, dill, and silver tip wheat as well as digging up ranunculus corms for winter storage. I have a long way to go.

Finally I am putting my fall (yes, fall is coming 😭) seed and extra bulb order together. I start cool flowers in January so I need to have those seeds picked out and shipped soon. While I am enjoying the moment, I need to be planning ahead as well.

The pond is probably my favorite part of our yard. The soothing sound of the waterfall, our little friends, and the increasing diversity make it such a unique and fun spot. The water is still a bit green but the wildlife and plants don’t seem to mind.

The dahlias are slowly blooming but everything else is full speed ahead. The bouquets are full of different scented mint, sparkly explosion grass, and fabulous zinnias. Bouquets available this evening, tomorrow, and Wednesday. The end of the week is reserved for subscribers and a beautiful wedding. Have a great week!

End of the day bouquet for the kids after a great week back to the flowers. Thank you as always to this wonderful community for supporting this small business. We love growing for you all!

A little battered but still beautiful and so very welcome in the garden. I haven’t seen any swallowtail caterpillars yet so hopefully soon. I have two spots for bouquets tomorrow and could do a couple Saturday. No flowers Sunday while we prep for the week. We have lots coming up!
