Casad Family Farms

Casad Family Farms Organic, Biodynamic and Permaculture farm west of Madras Oregon In addition we raise hays, grains, and specialty seed crops.

Here at Casad Family Farms we use Organic, Biodynamic, and Permaculture principals to sustainably steward our 85 acres of land in Jefferson County, Oregon. 65 acres of our total land uses North Unit Irrigation water rights which provides us with clean Deschutes Basin River water to irrigate our crops. We grow mixed vegetables and root crops for farmers markets and wholesale distribution to local r

estaurants and grocery stores. We also raise homestead cattle and hogs, and fresh eggs(when available). Casad Family Farm was established in 2017 in Madras Oregon, previously Farmer Chris was farming for 9 years in Bend Oregon operating as Juniper Jungle Farm.

Can’t stop won’t stop educating and sharing truth. The 100 year old system of water allocation is broken. Oregon Water Resources Department is taking public comment to help Define Water Waste right now! Link in bio 🤝

We took a leap of faith starting this farm, and we just keep leaping with faith to keep farming.
There are people who are afraid to talk about changing the 100 year old system of water allocation in Oregon that leads to golf courses and private water ski communities buying senior water rights, while farmers are drying up their lands and going out of business. Truth is the next 100 years will have to look very different from the past 100 years.

The 100 year old system of water allocation in the West leads to golf courses, luxury developments, second homes that mow and leave grass in the field to satisfy “beneficial use” receiving precious irrigation waters in our high desert, while family farms growing food are being dried up and going out of business. The solution is in our hands, Oregon must actually define beneficial use of water, and address “use it or lose it” legislation that leads to massive waste in the Deschutes River basin. The next 30 years, 60 years, 100 years will be defined by the actions our legislators and our state officials take now to make common sense changes to this outdated system that was never built for the world we exist in today.

Bend Oregon was once agricultural, today it’s a beautiful playground getting over 50% of the river while producing the states lowest GDP of agricultural products. Landowners can’t even choose to share the water with farmers because of the way legislation blocks the sharing of water.

Governor Tina Kotek Where are you in this critical conversation?
The farmers just want to feed our community.
