This is Crystals's other daughter, Sunny. Sunny was born with a deformed jaw and was very weak. Sunny is the most tenacious animal that I have ever seen. She had such a fire in her and a strong will to live. Now Sunny is happily hanging out with her sister, Amber. There is nothing that stands in Sunny's way. She runs and keeps up with the other lambs in the pasture and has a very strong personality. She is an inspiration to us all.

Two mommies-to-be! We are so excited to share that Cammie and Crystal will be mamas once again this spring. It was wild to see little legs kicking on the screen.
Thank you Dr T & Green Valley Veterinary Services LLC for helping keep our animals healthy.

When you think of wool, you probably picture it in colored balls of yarn. But there are so many other different uses of wool in its raw, unspun form. Wool is ram-packed with amazing properties. Not only is it natural, reusable and biodegradable, it also insulates, absorbs, and protects. Wool is nature’s wonder fiber, and its properties are a boon for those sensitive to allergens:

Natural Dust Mite Deterrent: Dust mites thrive in warm, moist environments. Wool’s ability to wick away moisture creates an unfavorable environment for these critters, making carpets relieve allergies effectively.

Mold and Mildew Resistance: Wool’s moisture-wicking abilities also prevent the buildup of mold and mildew, common triggers for asthma attacks.

Chemical-Free: Unlike some synthetic materials, wool is typically untreated with harsh chemicals. This natural aspect ensures that sensitive individuals aren't exposed to potential irritants.

One of the essential characteristics of a sustainable home is the use of natural and renewable materials that are sustainably sourced while also contributing to a healthier home environment. Sheep wool, when raised correctly, can restore ecosystems, capture carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, and provide sustainable living for small, family farmers.

The Poppy Project is about redefining the system. We currently live in a linear economy where we take resources from the earth and then dump them in a giant hole in the ground. The goal of zero waste is to move to a circular economy where we write trash out of existence. We reduce what we need, reuse as much as we can, send little to be recycled, and compost what we cannot.

“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, Nothing is going to get better. It’s not.”— Dr. Seuss, The Lorax

With just one small step at a time, we can greatly reduce our footprints. Every day you have the decision to positively impact the planet. We live in a society of instant gratification. Going zero waste is not conducive to that attitude. It takes time and patience. I tend to beat myself up for not being perfect, but in the beginning you’re not going to be perfect. It’s about the effort. It’s knowing that you want to change; It’s knowing you’re trying.

Poppy has inspired us to take this leap and start moving towards zero waste. Little Acorn Acres will be posting ideas on how we can reduce our footprints. Please share what is working in your life to reduce waste.

Babies, babies & more babies. We went from a flock of 3 to 8 in 24 hours (I think it was the full moon that did it). Birdie had triplets (2 rams, 1 ewe) and Crystal had twins (1 ewe, 1 ram).
What a wild ride - it was amazing!

Today is National Ag Day when we recognize and celebrate the abundance provided by American agriculture.

“Agriculture is our wisest pursuit, because it will in the end contribute most to real wealth, good morals, and happiness.”
